WGU class name equivalents

Nursing Students Western Governors

Published

WGU has very unique name for classes and I was just wondering if some students could comment on some of these classes.

I'm really interested in what class they accepted as a transfer credit.

Here are the ones I'm wondering about.

BBC 1-Communications Foundations. I have no real idea what this class is. I don't think it's like an English class or a Speech class because I'm pretty sure that's covered some where else. If you're an RN-to-BSN student and had this class waved, what class did they look at to allow you to wave it?

Language and Communication: Research (QBT1)

From reading other threads this one seems like one that almost everybody winds up having to take. I've had a research class before but it was geared towards history, so I don't know if they'll take that.

Literature, Arts, and the Humanities (IWC1)

Proctored, computer-based objective exam

Literature, Arts, and the Humanities: Analysis and Interpretation (IWT1)

Performance assessment that includes subjective and objective analysis and

interpretation in the humanities

I have no idea what that means. I've had a sociology class, I'm hoping that'll be equal to that. Again, if you're in the program did they wave this class and if so what class did you take that they waved it for?

Quantitative Literacy: Statistics, Probability, and Problem Solving (QMC1)

Proctored, computer-based objective exam

I think this is just plain jane statistics? I've never had statistics before and I'm kind of afraid that if I took a regular statistics class they would say "that wasn't a NURSING statistics class, so you must retake." So again what did you take, did it carry over?

BioChemistry

I've read in a few places that they frequently wave this class if you've had any college level chemistry. Did they wave it for you and what did you take?

Behavioral Science Survey (GLC1)

Issues in Behavioral Science (GLT1)

This one I'm really curious about, it seems like this is psychology? I've had intro to psychology and then several upper level psychology classes related to a degree in religious studies.

Specializes in Tele, ER, PreOp, PACU.

I'll answer this the best I can related to my own experience as a going-on-2 month student at .

BBC 1 IS basic college level English. I had to take it, much to my chagrin. But, it is not hard if you have strong grammar and writing skills. It is an objective assessment, no papers to write. If you have had college English composition or similar, you will probably meet the requirement and not have to take it.

Language and Communication Research- QBT1 ?? This was called LAT for me (and I just passed it). It involved writing a basic research paper which was time consuming.

Literature, Arts and the Humanities was not fulfilled by any of my sociology/psychology courses in the past. I have to take this.

Quantitative Literature: Statistics and Problem solving IS statistics, and I think the requirement would be met if you had any statistics in the past (I didn't).

Biochemistry- I had a regular college chemistry w/lab umpteen years ago and they accepted it. I think the lab portion is a deciding factor. Either that or I got lucky since I don't have to take it.

Behavioural Science and Issues in Behavioural Science were both satisfied by my college courses umpteen years ago (I'm old). I think I had Intro to Psych, Sociology, and Social Psychology, which satisfied this requirement for me.

Hope this helps

It does help!

Some of their stuff is hard to understand and I don't want to give them my name/number yet because I gave UTA my name/number and they called me so much that it really annoyed me.

I'm still totally confused about whether or not I'd need to take any pre-reqs or not because I'll have an ADN. Does having an ADN with an active RN license mean they waive most of the stuff or do they go case by case like if you have an AAS?

I might have to bite the bullet and give them a call.

You're wise to keep your name/number to yourself until you are ready. One of the several counselors that I have dealt with was calling me so much I got fed up with her quickly and hesitated to contact the school again at the appropriate time.

Specializes in Pediatrics/Adult Float Pool.

I am so thankful for my counselor...got most of my stuff in, but have kind of slacked off. She called me a couple of times in the beginning to answer my questions, but for the most part has left me alone unless I call her....not what I expected, but better! Hoping to get started in Jan/Feb...better get in gear!!
