Did you have to "camp out" at work? We got 2 feet here also! I got to camp out in the ICU!

I'm from Huntington. Went to St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing back in the late 70s. Have lived out of state for the past 6 years. Going to move back one of these days!! I make the trip across I 70, to 68 to 79 to 64 about every 3-4 months. Just can't stay away from those grandkids!

I am a CCU nurse in NC Triad area, wanting to move to WV for years now. My wife is finally OK with it if we can get rid of house. We have been visiting there for years, and are especially fond of Elkins. Can anyone tell me about the work environment there (Davis)...pay, benefits, atmosphere. Cardiac is what I am most comfortable with, but I guess I could try something else if necessary. Thanks.

There's a few small hospitals in the area--Davis, AB, Grafton City. Many, many healthcare workers commute to Morgantown--Ruby Hospital (WVU) or Monongalia General (smaller, community).

Thank you for the info. Any recommendations...in your opinion, which would you look to pursue first in my situation, and why?

Thanks again...Jeff

I work in Morgantown, so I'm much more familiar with those hospitals. Check out the websites for both, job postings are online.

Ruby--University based, med school and nursing school. Trauma center, MICU, SICU, CCU, several stepdowns. Bad parking on football game days.

MGH--smaller, less diversity. 16 bed M/S ICU, 10 bed CCU (MIs, PCIs, OHS). Residents in very few areas. Does have nursing students around.

The smaller hospitals usually have more stable patients, send out AMIs, unstable resp pts to Morgantown.

Can work at 1 and pick up per diem at the other, but the time is getting harder to come by. Really comes down to which environment you like better!
