Seattle University BSN (transfer) Fall 2013

U.S.A. Washington

Published

I didn't see any thread for Seattle U BSN transfer program fall 2013. Lets see if anybody else applied other than me lol..

@lubell26 Thank you! I have my fingers crossed you'll get a letter with good news today!! If you don't get it today, it might come tomorrow too. There was 2 days difference between my letter and when it got to me.

Which is soooooo frustrating that they told me the letters were all mailed out on Monday. No way! Mine was dated Tuesday.

Bah! I received a rejection letter to SU stating transfer students who usually apply have done at least 36 transferable credits and what not...

Although, I have all of my prereq's done, a "decent" gpa of 3.6, an Associates of Arts and Associates in Pre-Nursing, 5 years of healthcare experience as a lab assistant working with patients of various ages, diversity, mental and physical disabilities in various departments- while performing venipunctures, processing/accessioning specimens and pathologies. My volunteer experience includes CNA in a family home for the past 8 years, on-call for the past 7 years as an office aid for a low income family practice office, and 1 year in the American Red Cross as part of the Shelter Disaster Team, as well as First Aid Response Team.

And I really thought I was close... :bag:

I got a weird letter saying that they would reconsider their decision if I showed them my completed course work and if wasn't fair to admit me if I had under 36 completed transferable credits. I'm so confused. It's not like it really matters anyways, because I can't move to Seattle right now...But it's kind of a bummer. I didn't get into any of the programs I applied to and my gpa is 3.6.

ObrienMP,

Did you apply to WSU for this fall? I think I got rejected also because I haven't received a letter and that usually means that I didn't get an interview. What were the schools you applied to for this fall? I don't think it's fair that schools look at your academic past..but if they do it should be to evaluate you as a student who is serious and trying to improve :)

I got the same exact thing :( I m going to call them see what did they mean by reconsider.

That is weird! Maybe because you'd have to take more core classes and you wouldn't be able to graduate with the rest of the cohort? You are kind of right between being a native starter and a transfer who would start as junior status. I did read somewhere they require you to have a minimum # of credits to transfer, but I don't remember if it was for the school of nursing or SU in general.

Irenna & ObrienMP,

I'm sorry to hear about your crummy news. I imagine you both were crushed. The good news here is that you've completed the prerequs for your program. You've gotten the difficult stuff out of the way. It's likely you can do all the transfer coursework, which isn't at all difficult, in one to two semesters, if you are brave enough to take more than your fair share of units. Plan on reapplying for 2014 BSN programs. You both have strong volunteer/service history's, and seem to be desirable candidates. Don't let this defeat you, rather, let it inspire you to be that much more determined!

Here's the thing about getting AA's, you can get them without doing transfer work, but in most cases, they are non transferable, even if you've done your transfer work. Unless you've chosen an AA that specifically states University Prep., such as Chemistry or Biology, an AA/AS is for the most part useless towards your transfer credit.

Please check with you current college (you can go online and see what you need to complete like right now, and make a game plan) about its transfer track, we use IGECT here in California. It's likely you've completed more of it than you think.

Best of Luck to you both!

I'm really not "crushed" at all. Let's be realistic. The world still turns and I will still be a nurse at the end of the day...Honestly, anyone who would be crushed about not getting into a college has probably never faced rejection before. I put in just as much work as the next guy, but I'm really not going to go and cry about it. I don't have time for it. Plus, I can't even move to seattle right now anyways...I mean, let's not be too dramatic about it. I'm also not waiting around to apply to 2014 programs. I don't have the time and my life goes far beyond filling out applications and writing entrance essays...I seriously don't want to go through the process again. It's annoying, way too time consuming and I have a family to raise.

@csweet When I called and asked they said that I wasn't admitted because I hadn't completed my stats course which put me under 36 credits. If I showed them that I completed it, meaning send my winter grades, they would reconsider because my essay and GPA were outstanding. So....I mean, I don't know. It's the weirdest college "rejection" letter I've ever seen.

ObrienMP,

LOL, yes, maybe I chose far too dramatic a word. I was just trying to be encouraging though. Good luck!

@obrien "crushed" doesn't mean go in the corner as cry. Some of us don't have the luxury of simply jumping on a new course of action when we get rejected as you seem to be able to. I'm stuck in Seattle and therefore will need to reapply. And I've never heard of anyone being able to transfer to any school without having at least 60 transferable credits in all of the four states I've lived in.. That sounds pretty generous of Seattle U. I'm sorry it didn't work out though, but it seems like you can manage.

awe no. :( lubell26, i am so sorry you will have to reapply. Are you going to try community colleges? I know Shoreline's fall deadline is next week, but Everett's isn't until July 5th. I wish you luck!

Are the nursing programs at CC in Washington as impacted as the ones in California? You can only get into our programs if you've got a 3.8-4.0 GPA and a ton of luck. Used to be a lottery system and average 3 yr wait.
