Seattle University APNI

U.S.A. Washington

Published

I just got accepted to Seattle University's APNI program and was wondering if any of my fellow future classmates were interested in starting a thread of our own.

We are about to embark on an amazing, stressful and exciting venture--June is just around the corner!

We may as well start getting to know each other now.

When I initially decided to apply to SU I found very little on allnurses, so I'm hoping this thread will also be a place where prospective APNI's can post and get some advice from us . . . eventually :p

So, if anyone is interested in introducing themselves I'd love to hear from you.

I look forward to meeting everyone at orientation in June :D

Any advice from current students is greatly appreciated too!

I'm alright with any location, I work in Harborview right now, so both locations would be dandy :-)

If the Ram in the U District works, they do have that little room there...not sure if we could request that...

Does anyone know anything about the transition from MSN to DNP? I know that it is going to be required until 2015, but what does this mean for us MSN, ARNP's? This is a factor in our field that semi-frightens me.

Hi all. I am SO glad someone set this up and am looking forward to meeting everyone. Unfortunately, I live in Spokane right now and will miss happy hour next week. I am in the process of moving to Seattle over the next couple of months (my husband already lives in the Central District and works downtown) so I would love a future opportunity to meet everyone if you all decide to get together again before the orientation in June.

I have been accepted into the GNP tract and am also curious about the status of SU's DNP program, or what other options we'll have once we complete the APNI. I know we're all going to be exhausted by the end of this round but am not really sure I'll want to wait to return to school to complete a doctorate after taking a long break. I'd love to hear if anyone else knows what SU is working on, what the DNP requirements will be and what other options we'll have.

Congrats to everyone on getting accepted and I look forward to meeting you all!

Hi all--

My name is Mike and I'm also in the Psych track. I moved to Seattle about a year and a half ago and am excited to start the program.

Karla: My understanding of this is that programs will be shifting from Masters of Nursing to Doctorates, but licensure will not be be changed at that point. I would imagine there will be some sort of grandfather clause for existing NPs or at least an extension for current NPs to get an advanced degree.

Considering that there's already a nursing shortage, it seems like it would be impossible/unlikely to invalidate the licenses of current skilled practitioners.

Does anyone else know more?

ANPIStudent: Sorry I didn't see your post when I submitted mine earlier! The Elysian is a great place and centrally located, but I'm a little worried about parking around there. I didn't mean to contradict your earlier post! Where in the south end are you coming from?

But whatever works for everyone is great for me -- I'm totally flexible!

Karla: Here's a link to an extremely long thread/discussion about it that I've been slowly trying to get (skim) through https://allnurses.com/nurse-practitioners-np/doctoral-degree-become-160044.html. It's a lot to sort through, but if you've got the time it might be of interest -- and might answer some questions.

No worries. I thought the parking worries were funny after all the "move to northgate- its so busable" stuff. I try not to drive myself, and was just trying to come up with something close to campus- hence why I was thinking Central Seattle -but I'm happy to drive to northgate to meet you all! I'm looking forward to seeing who is in the program. Can you post the address and phone of the restaurant you're thinking of? Is 6:30 or 7pm still a good time Monday?

For those of you not yet in town, I'm sure there are many get-togethers to come...

Happy movings, and see you soon!

Monday around 6:30 or 7pm works for me. Here's the address and phone number. It's right across from Crate & Barrel and the parking garage in the Village -- pretty hard to miss. ;)

I emailed Sabrina Brown and told her that we're making plans to have a Seattle area get together, so when we decide the time and location she can (hopefully) tell the rest of our cohort. Also, we should try to get a headcount so we know how many tables we need or if we should make a reservation.

I'm in. See you there!

Sounds great! I'm in too! Should we shoot for 6:30?

Monday works for me and either time is great! :yeah:
