PLU elmsn 2015

U.S.A. Washington

Published

Hey everyone! I know it's a little early, but I'm wondering if anyone is applying to the PLU elmsn program to start in 2015.

We could use this forum as a place to communicate and support each other through this process!

I am so ready to get things rolling. PLU is my first choice, so hoping this year is my year!

Hello! I just joined this forum recently, but I am also applying for the PLU ELMSN program!

I'm also a bit nervous about the GRE requirements. I am taking the test at the end of October. I took a practice test and received scores that wouldn't disqualify me :) I hope that in the following weeks I can boost my writing score a little bit at least.

How is the first year of the program? I assume it is as intense as any accelerated program, yes? Goodness, I hope I get a chance to experience it!

Hey! Welcome to the thread! I'm applying to both PLU and Seattle U. PLU being my first choice... the Seattle U thread has quite a few contributors, while the PLU thread doesn't have many so I'm happy to see you on here :) But at the same time, maybe fewer contributors means not many are applying and we have a better chance of getting in ;)

What's your background?!

Are you getting anxious?! I know I am... Almost completed with my application. Just have to submit my resume and letter of intent. I'm starting a new job November first so I want to wait to start the job before I update my resume and what not. Also waiting on my letters of recommendation - frustrating to not have control over them submitting the letters - makes me anxious haha.

Hello! Yes, wouldn't that be nice to have increased odds... Don't tell anyone! haha

I'm from Alaska, but I recently moved to Seattle. I just took two jobs as a nursing assistant down here for this year while waiting to hear about these schools. I've been employed as a CNA for only 7 months up in Alaska, but I really enjoy the work! My experience really helped to reaffirm my desire to pursue nursing.

Yeah I'm getting anxious! I just submitted the ABSN application at UW yesterday, so that was a nice little stress reliever. I too was waiting to upload my resume until I could put my new jobs on there :) Otherwise, I'm just studying for the GRE, which I take at the beginning of November, and finishing up the stats and nutrition prerequisites. Woo! So much to do! Don't worry too much about the recommenders... I'm sure they're just formulating all the wonderful phrases which they can use on the letters.

What is your undergrad degree in?

Do you have a background in healthcare?

Best of luck!

My undergraduate degree is in Public Health! I currently work at a hospital in the dietary department, but will be transferring to a CNA position NEXT month! I can't wait! The reason I am waiting to submit my statement and resume ;)

You have a lot of CNA experience! That is wonderful!

What are your goals? I see you're applying to UW. Anywhere else?

Anyone have suggestions for formatting the resume?! And whether we should keep it to one page like a typical resume or can leave it as a CV....help!

Alright guys - Application submitted!

Minus one letter of recommendation which is more or less out of my control.

FEELS SO GOOD to be done.

Now to wait....

These next couple months are probably gonna be slow ones, eh?

May25, Ttat's a pretty awesome perspective to be coming at nursing from. It's really cool how there's a reason to become a nurse for almost everyone, which is why the field is so diverse and full of all sorts of different opportunities.

I'd like to become a nurse practitioner eventually, but one step at a time, right? I'm about to submit. Just wanted to update the resume and do another pass on the goal statement. It's interesting to see how, during the course of writing this statement, my own personal goals have grown; critical thinking expands the mind.

What has motivated you to pursue this career direction, and how do you want to apply it yourself?

duhfeenuh, for the resume format, I'm keeping it pretty simple. I've always had it in a nice format before, but in the process of applying for jobs here, I found that a lot of places force you to paste it into a text box. So I just do that and edit it to look good using those boxes. You never know what program or format it will be viewed through. Simple is best. Or you could put it on colorful paper and scent it and draw designs on it to give the rest of us increased odds ;) JUST KIDDING! DON'T DO THAT!! If you have questions, you can always call the school. They have been incredibly helpful, and patient, with all of my communications :)

Just a few days left! Everyone can do this! Hopefully we will all be classmates soon!

Hi Folks,

Thanks for starting this thread! I've been keeping an eye on it for the past few months, but haven't had anything to contribute until now. I'm curious, do any of you know how many people applied this year? I'm assuming most who apply will do so by the priority deadline, right? I went to an information session and they said they were going to try to speed up the admissions process this year, which is exciting. Still, it's going to be a long few months!

I don't know how many people applied, so curious as well. Decisions are made in February? This waiting game is rough and it's barely started.

I'm not sure how many applied either. It sounded like there has been more and more each year. Last year was like 130 if I remember correctly from an info session. Don't hold me to that!

I also thought that they would be hopefully starting to send out decisions before the new year? Perhaps it was early next year though... The sooner the better!!!

Goodluck everyone!

Before the New Year?!

Wow, I had no idea they were trying to speed up the admissions process... From following past forums I figured I wouldn't hear anything until like March or April. Now I'm anxious, I'm trying not to get too excited though or think about it TOO much ;)

Gosh, I would be so excited to have a response by the new year. Like fee-fi-fo-fum I also thought we could start to expect responses Jan-Feb, but I hope you are right and that we'll get them earlier! If I remember correctly, they were expecting around 120-130 responses this year, but received 100 last year and only 80 of those applications were complete. I think they're sending our applications over to the nursing department this week, so perhaps we'll find out how many applied then? I need to just take a deep breath and settle in for the long haul. Phew!

Thanks for chiming in! If you hear anything, update please!

Hello folks! Has anyone heard anything at all yet? I've already heard back from the UW ABSN program, and am still hoping to hear back from PLU soon too! Looks like I was wrong in guessing that notifications would be out this year.
