Foreign nurses in Washington state

U.S.A. Washington

Published

I have a question, and the information is for an article I am writing. For those of you currently working in hospitals, has there been any hiring of foreign nurses--Canadian included? If so, can you tell me which hospitals?

I am trying to find this demographic info, and the Wash nurses association was of absolutely no help. They said to check area hospitals--but rather than call every hospital in the state, I thought I'd first ask and see if anyone has noticed hiring of foreign nurses--in the past few years.

Thanks for all of your help!

Check with St Joseph's Hospital in Bellingham, WA. They have a LOT of Canadian nurses working there. Probably cheaper to hire, less back end Human Resources costs, plus they get a nurse with experience.

Harborview and Swedish has a lot of canadians working at their hospital

Washington Board of Nursing should have the figures that you need. And you need to keep in mind that a Canadian nurse is counted differently with many of the counts as to "foreign nurses" as they are under a NAFTA visa which is under different rulings.
