Any new grad RN jobs in Washington

U.S.A. Washington

Published

Hello there!

I recently graduated with my BSN in Hawaii and am looking for jobs here and along the west coast. I've been looking for months in Hawaii, California, Oregon and Washington and have had no luck. Anyone know of any new grad positions or new grad residency programs starting up with in the next few months or even anytime next year?

Thanks.

The market is glutted with new grads coming out every quarter. Every person in my graduating class who is now employed got the job through his/her senior immersion. But not all of us lucked into being a senior on a floor that was hiring, so the market is totally saturated with BSNs. Hospitals and clinics and even Public Health wants 2 years experience, period. And forget about residencies--I can count on one hand the number of those I've seen advertised. I'd stay in Hawaii where it's at least warm and sunny.

Evegreen hospital north of Seattle is supposedly offering a new grad orientation in the near future. Look them up on the Internet. I gave the hospital and nurse recruiter informaition on the listserve recently. Search my threads, and you will find it. Hope that helps.

Lindarn,

I checked with Evergreen and they said there weren't going to have any new grad openings for a while. Is this an internal position you know about? Or am I not speaking to the correct people. Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I would LOVE to work at Evergreen!

I know WA Dept of Corrections hires new nurses. I was one. There are usually always openings on their website. It all depends on where in WA you want to relocate to.

If you are serious about wanting to move to Washington, you need to get to Washington to start looking. They definitely won't take you seriously if you're not in town. That is crystal-clear. Once you're in town, visiting in person, and are patient, good things will happen. Providence Hospital (Everett) will have to make a big expansion in the next year. They just added a massive tower which will lead to hundreds of nursing opportunities. And not just BSN's either...

Evergreen is a great hospital, but yah, their HR department is very firm about not hiring new grads. Not even new grads who did clinical rotations there.

Providence is a different story. I think the general consensus is that the Providence recruiters prefer to hire new nurses who have had clinical instructors that they know personally. I got the impression that ADNs were also preferred, even though they tout the ADN to BSN benefit. I could be wrong, but it was a fairly strong impression and one that more than a few of us got. In fact, after one of the monthly speed-dating style recruitment meetings, a number of us met in the parking lot and talked about how demoralizing the whole thing was. Let's just say, they were rude enough that I don't think any of us will consider working there: Ever.

Now here this:

Kootenai Medical Center, (in North Idaho), in Coeur D' Alene, Idaho, just over the border from Spokane, is advertising NEW GRAD RESIDENCIES, in todays paper, the,Spokesman Review.

There are FOUR DAY TIME POSITIONS, IN VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS, AND IT SAYS TO CHECK ON LINE LISTINGS:

Hope that helps. Check them out.

Look into Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, WA - I know it isn't an exciting area like Seattle, but the pay & benefits are great, the cost of living is low, and I know they've been recruiting as far away as Portland to hire new grads. A new peds unit is opening today and a new cardiac unit is opening next month.
