Experienced Nurse Looking for Great Job Opportunity in DC

U.S.A. Washington DC

Specializes in Anesthesia, ICU, OR, Med-Surg.

Hello,

From reading most of the posts here on Allnurses, most seem to be from new grads looking for jobs or their experiences in looking for the same. I haven't run across many postings from experienced nurses out there in the field. I am an experienced nurse and would like to pose a question to those other experienced nurses out there. How are the jobs out there in the DC area? I am currently active duty Air Force stationed in South Korea. In April 2010, I will be stationed in Washington, DC area. I have been a nurse for 12 years now and I am currently considering separating from the military in 2011. I have 6 years experience in Med-Surg, 7 years experience in Operating Room, and in May 2010, I will be starting an ICU Fellowship at the Naval Hospital in Bethesda.

I am looking to moonlight in the DC/Maryland area and was wondering if someone could tell me the average pay for agency nurses in that area for OR, med-surg, and ICU experience. I am board certified in Operating Room (CNOR) and Med-Surg (CMSRN) nursing. I know typically in most areas, OR nurses tend to make a lot more than ICU nurses because of the limited supply of experienced OR nurses and the increasing demand for surgical services. Also, if there are any agencies you recommend, please let me know. If and when I decide to leave the military, I know I will have lots of options available since I have completed my MSN in Nursing Education. My main goal is to go to nurse anesthesia school or if that doesn't work out, then maybe pursue a Post-Master's Certificate as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialist.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Antonio Fisher, RN, MSN, CNOR, CMSRN

:)

I would suggest washington hospital center, howard university hospital or children's hospital :)
