I have been working at CHildren's in DC, and the PICU. It is a very challenging PICU, but it is a great learning environment

Thanks for the reply,

What specifically makes Children's PICU challenging ? Pt. acuity, pt load, staffing ? Do you receive support by your staff members.

One of the things that makes it challenging is the patient acuity. Plus, I am a new grad nurse. (May 2006) I just got off orientation. It was six months long. I have found that my co-workers are great and everyone is always ready to help out.

To RNNPICU:

Can you please tell me your rate as a new graduate nurse at DC Children's Hospital?

Did you also get any kind of sign on bonus? I hear Pediatric RNs can get as much as $20K but I am not sure. Thanks.

rmc2:

I haven't heard of the 20k sign on, especially for new grads. The rate for all new grads at CNMC is $25/hr regardless of which unit you work in I don't remember if there is a sign on bonus or not for new grads. You can call the nurse recruitment for that specific information. Sorry I couldn't be more specific.
