Applicants to GWU's ABSN 2011

U.S.A. Washington DC

Published

Hi! Just wanted to start another thread relating to GW's accelerated nursing program. Is anyone applying? They extended the deadline to March 1st and wondering if there weren't many applicants or they just allowed for more time? I'm sending mine in this weekend and am excited!

I just got the email yesterday saying I'm in! I am currently a student in Atlanta and somewhat concerned with where to live. I am still deciding between a few schools, but GW seems like a great program! Has anyone actually visited? Thoughts?

Congrats to everyone!

Hi AMM,

I'm not too sure as I am coming from cali and don't know much about commute and traffic. Regardless, I'll be commuting from Lorton as that's where I'll be staying. I also now am not sure if I'll be attending because I just got my acceptance to Georgetown. YIKES! =) Excited, but the pricetag to GU is A LOT to swallow. So we'll see. I gotta sit down and think of pros and cons. Anyway congrats to those who got accepted and maybe I'll get to meet you all soon! =)

hi everyone!

i'm still waiting to hear from gwu, so congrats to everyone who got accepted already! i got into two other area schools, so i'm really eager to hear from gwu so i can make my decision.

i've lived in the dc area for the last 7 years in all different areas. i loved living in the city and still miss it sometimes. now i live out near ashburn and commute into the city for work. i hate it. (but i love my husband, so i guess it works for now!) for those of you out-of-towners, dc traffic was rated worst/second worst in the nation for a reason.

however, i agree with some other postings that said you really have to weigh the pros and cons of city life vs. the suburbs. if you're willing to do the drive, there are a lot of cool places to live and see and do in the city. however, based on some of the conversations i've had with second degree students, there isn't a lot of time to do social stuff anyway!

the hospitals out near the ashburn campus are a lot better to do your clinicals in, too (at least, that's what i've heard a lot). living close by would probably benefit you in that area, too.

if you need some additional advice, please feel free to private message me. i've lived where i can walk to work, and now drive an hour+ every day, so i can provide some really frank advice if you want it :)

congrats again!

I just found out today that I was accepted to GW's program! It was my top choice so I am super stoked. I have lived in DC since 2004 and currently live near the convention center (downtown) with my boyfriend. We have pretty cheap rent so I don't know if I will be moving to Ashburn. It's kind of dead in Ashburn. :-)

If anyone is close by and wants to carpool, let me know! I have a car and wouldn't mind driving at all.

When I went to the information session, they did mention transportation is available from the Metro, but it might take a long time. Traffic in DC is terrible, but maybe since classes are starting early in the morning, it won't be too bad for the "reverse commute" that I will be doing.

I hope to hear from some of you soon. I am looking forward to the program!!

Oh, and let me know if you guys have started a FB page for everyone who is attending in the Fall. I would love to meet some of you. :-)

@zsazsa2012: CONGRATS on your acceptance!! It is so exciting!! I'm not 100% sure I'm going to go to GW, but if I do end up there I would LOVE to coordinate carpooling with you! I live in the U Street area, so pretty close to you! I can't bear the idea of moving out of DC, so if I go to GW I'm going to commute as well!

You should start an FB group!! I don't want to start one since I'm not sure I'm going, but it would be great to have a group on there!!

CONGRATS again!!!

So for everyone who is from CA and is going to GW...where are you guys located? Is anyone in SoCal, specifically LA or Orange County?

I can set up the FB page...but I'm not sure how to go about inviting everyone to join? In addition....I can't set I've set up a FB group before, amazingly enough :/ Does anyone else want to do it???

hi dfarrington,

I'm coming from Northern California! Close, but not close enough, huh? =)

I was going to start one, but I'm not sure of where I'm attending yet. But I think to set up the FB page, on the login page, there's a little link that says, "Create a page." As for inviting everyone who is interested, I think it'd be easier to just post the link on this thread. Just a thought and hope it helps! =)

I'm from northern california originally and live there now, but went to college in Socal!

Awesome! I'm from So cal, went to school and lived for a bit in nor cal...and now I'm back down south!

Hi all, i recently just found out that i got accepted to GW! yay @zsazsa2012 @AMM430 I also live in DC (foggy bottom) and would love to carpool!

Is anyone not planning on attending GW? I know some of you are still unsure. I'm on the waitlist and I am just trying to figure out what my chances are :(
