Hey! Any OR nurses out there? Where are you working and what do you like/not like about your facility?

I am currently working at Inova Alexandria Hosp. Fairly tight-knit group, mostly decent docs, the typical complaints of too much call, etc.

Hi I am not a OR nurse but want to be OR nurse. Recently I am applying to INOVA hospital.I only had 4 yrs long term care experience. It's hard to find a job in hospital in VA. Can you give advice? Anything.

Thanks

Did you apply for the fellowship? That would be the best route to get into the OR. Inova's program is 12 months long, though I did hear a rumor that it was decreasing to 9 month's. Consists of classroom time, training to circulate and scrub surgical procedures. Good luck.

I used to work for CHKD in the OR, and I LOVED it. It's so much fun working with the kids, and I hear that pediatric anesthesiologists and pediatric surgeons are easier to work with than their adult counterparts. I have never worked in an adult OR, though, so I can't compare. I really enjoyed working with all my coworkers, though, and found almost everyone to be respectful and helpful.

I did an internship program where they put us through the AORN OR nurse training, did some classroom teaching, and some hands on clinical. Then we worked with preceptors for a few months, and as we became more comfortable in the OR environment, were allowed to work more independently. It was a great program.

Thanks for giving me adivice.I 've applied for OR position.Hopefuly they cantact me as fellowship position.
