Student Applying to NVCC For Nursing Program Starting in Fall 2013

U.S.A. Virginia

Hi Everyone!

I really wanted to begin a thread about NVCC's Nursing Program due to begin in Fall 2013 (Applications are due May 2013). I am starting my pre-reqs in January, because I have been in school elsewhere. I know it will be tight to get them completed in time to apply, but I want to be considered in time for the Fall 2013 program.

For anyone who has applied and been accepted to NVCC's nursing program, or for anyone who plans to in May, will you tell me what your credentials were (GPA, TEAS score, any certifications etc)? As in, if you could describe the perfect nursing school application, what would it include?

I want to do this right! Any support/insight is great.

Thanks, NOVA EMT for that info! That seems so far away

I spoke with someone at admissions and the only information she could give was that they start notifying applicants after May 21st and letters go out in June. I'm definitely going a bit nuts and feeling super stressed out waiting around. Hopefully notifications get sent via email in the next week or so. Good luck to you all!

anyone have any idea how many students they accept or how many students there are in each year's class?

the wait is killing me!

Hey all!!!

I'm a senior in the traditional program and just wanted to wish you all good luck!!! The wait MUST be killing you!! I actually got a DENIAL from student services at 5 on the weekend of memorial day last year because I didn't "pass" my TEAS..I actually got 90's and above in all subjects. Later that Tuesday I was told I was send the wrong email (with no apology for giving me a heart attack) but I remember just about this weekend last year I got an email saying I had a temp. Acceptance! ( you wil get a temporary acceptance till you pass your drug/background check)! I'm not sure about how many they are taking, but since there is no momentum program anymore, they may take more(?) but DONT worry! You'll all do great! Just say bye to your social Life and HELLO to nursing life!

Best wishes!!!!

thanks for the info MG0907! i really hope they take everyone who applied! I know this isn't the case but man, it would be nice!

There are usually about 150 seats available to be filled in each new nursing student class, so if the traditional nursing program received 200 applications then that means that the overall acceptance rate will be 75%. In the past the overall acceptance rate was about 50%.

MG0907, nice to hear from you! And thank you for the words of encouragement. I know we all really appreciate it :) I cannot imagine the heart attack from reading that incorrect email. I started to get a headache just reading that.

Brian_j, welcome to the thread! I am glad you have found us.

Suzieschu, thanks for the info! I know it is so tough waiting, I am struggling to find ways to occupy my time!

And if it means I get to be in nursing school, I will gladly kiss the "social" life away! :inlove:

Also, did anyone else see the letter that said "we will NOT hear anything regarding the status until FOUR weeks after May 21, 2013" ???

MG0907 or NOVA EMT, I know it's been a while, but do you recall reading a letter with that sort of a solid deadline? If so, did you STILL hear earlier than the four weeks? Maybe it is a new thing this year...

I have not heard anything yet, and I did not receive any letter stating that applicants would not hear from the nursing program until four weeks after May 21st, 2013. However, the traditional nursing program application instructions stated that "Allow up to 3 weeks after the END of the Nursing Track Deadline for your application to be processed". This means that you should not expect to hear anything about your application until June 11th, 2013 at the earliest. Realistically, it will take four weeks for them to notify all of the applicants.

That's true. I am just a bit confused because like you said, our application stated three weeks originally after May 21st, and then a letter saying not until after four weeks. But it takes time! And I'd rather them take the time they need than rush!

Hi All,

I rec'd the confirmation letter too today. At first when I saw it, I was like uh-oh (its really thin) but then to my relief and dismay, its just a confirmation of application submission. It also says in BOLD letters that we will not hear anything regarding a acceptance until AT LEAST FOUR WEEKS AFTER MAY 21, 2013, a whole host of requirements (background, BLS, orientations) and who to contact if we no longer wish to be considered. June 21st cant get here any sooner!
