ODU's accelerated BSN program????

Hi all,

This is my first post so I am hoping that I get some feedback. I am looking at OSU's accelerated BSN program and was wondering if there was anyone out there that has already finished this program and could answer some questions for me. I finish my BS in Biology with a chemistry minor in 2005. So, I know that I have all of the pre-reqs for the school but I son't know what is competitive for the program. I received A's in the entire A&P series plus labs, microbiology plus lab and all the rest of the bacc core style courses. But, I only received B's in inorganic and organic chemistry. I have no healthcare experience but I have finished a certificate in phlebotomy (but was not able to find a job using it). Let me know if anyone could help me out:)

Also, my overall GPA during my BS was a 3.33.... I just a note on the website that most had an overall GPA of at least a 3.5:(

Don't be discouraged. I would still apply and see what happens. At the same time you may want to look into applying at other nursing schools. I have heard that ODU is VERY competitive. Have you thought about Sentara's BSN program? It only takes 2.5 years and the classes start in January.

I wish I could offer you more advice. ODU was not an option for me because it would have taken me two more semesters to get the science classes done and I would be eligible to only apply to the 2013 class start date. That is too far off for me. Right now I'm trying to choose between Norfolk State and Hampton University VA Beach's accelerated RN program. I wish you the best and I'm sure you will find something that works for you. If ODU is your dream school then don't give up on that, maybe you can retake some classes to bring your GPA up. :)

I was accepted to the accelerated ODU program for Fall 2011. Unfortunately, my husband was transferred to another area of the state so I was unable to enroll.

I have a BA in Biology/Psychology from way back in 1996 with a 3.2 and had taken A&P, Micro and ethics at the local community college over the last year with a 4.0. I think weight is placed on the pre-req classes rather than your entire class load.

I also looked at the Sentara program. I would have needed more classes to get into that program than I needed to apply to the Physician Assistant program at EVMS.

Could I ask you if you have any healthcare experience? I am just trying to figure out what would be considered competitive for the ODU program. I am also looking at the Sentara program. Did you apply to any other program in the HR area?

I worked as a clinical research coordinator over 10 years ago, but no licensed health care experience.

I didn't apply any where else. I looked into the program at VCU/MCV (I lived in the western part of HR) but had missed the deadline.
