it's been a long time and a lot of work finishing my pre and co-requisites. i am finally on the precipice of what i hope will be the beginning of a new journey. my application was accepted last week and now i am just waiting to hear something.

here's a bit about me... i am 44 and have 9-year-old twin girls. i work full time at a hospital in medical records and have been taking one class at a time for the last 3+ years. i am in my last co-requisite right now, which is cst 110. i have wanted to be a nurse since 1985, back when i would have graduated high school (i have a ged instead), but the timing wasn't right and i wasn't ready. i actually went to nvcc back then for a semester, when nursing was still at annandale. i went back to school in 1994, but put it away again until the fall of 2008. i am hoping the third time will be the charm for me!

who else is out there waiting with me? can we commiserate a bit? i would love to hear your stories.

I'm waiting with you!! Geez, I've been waiting since February of this year for the May 27 application deadline to pass so I can start the official countdown. I don't think I can handle another week of waiting- especially since they say at LEAST 2 weeks after May 27 is when we can expect to hear something. I'm so anxious to hear something!

Anyways, best of luck to you and the rest of the applicants. It sounds like, if anybody, you deserve it!

Hi Katie! Thanks for replying to my post. I was thinking we could kill time and let off steam while we wait. I bet you are ready to pop at this point.

Did you finish your prerequisites in the fall? Do you have all your co-requisites done too? I was going to leave CST110, but when I was waiting in line to take the TEAS (huge line on May 16) folks convinced me to get it done now.

I heard a rumor that if we watch BlackBoard, under My Organizations, you might see nursing pop up before you get an acceptance letter. It doesn't hurt to keep checking there; I've been checking.

I hope we all get in! Thanks again and hang in there :)

I finished all my pre-/co-requisites in the Spring 2010 semester. The only thing that kept me from applying last year was the TEAS test. I passed the reading/writing portions with no problem but I hadn't taken a math since high school so I didn't do so well on that and had to retake it again. Unfortunately it was too late for me to try to retake it before the deadline last year.

I heard about that rumor as well. I was actually reading threads/posts on this site from people that were in our position last year and I came across that so I've been checking "My Organizations", too.

I really can't wait to get these letters. I heard that everyone will get them by Saturday June 11 at the latest! That's promising, but I've never wanted to rush my summer days until now! Good luck ladies :heartbeat

Really?! Oh my goodness! Where did you hear that, GCW? I remember the letter I got about the acknowledgment of my application saying that at the earliest, we'd hear two weeks after the application deadline. I didn't realize it'd only be a day after. I hope you're right. I keep having dreams about getting my letter or seeing the magical link under "My Organizations" on blackboard hahaha

Just talked to my friend from last year and she said basically everyone recieved them that june 11-13 weekend last year. SIGH I just want to stop thinking about it really so I'm trying to keep as busy as possible. Waiting for letters always drives me crazy. Im so nervous yet just so ready for whatever it might say.

my letter said not before 2 weeks after the 27th too. i must have checked blackboard today 6 times :o part of me is desperate to get this over with and the other part is glad i don't know. i am so scared it'll be bad news, but i am trying to be positive about this. i only had a 3.46. i got b's in both my a&p classes, and that dragged my gpa down. my teas was really good though, so hopefully it'll even out.

Can somebody tell me about the blackboard thing you guys are talking about is there something we should be looking out for?! :)

Katie,

I had to retake my TEAS math portion too. The first time I took the TEAS math I got like a 75.8. I was so upset that I didn't pass, but now I am so glad I didn't. After I studied my butt off, I got a 91 on the retake. Now that I know it's one of the main criteria, I think it was fate. I heard there is a math test at orientation?

blackboard is educational software that many universities use. if you haven't taken any classes at nvcc or through vccs, you might not have access to blackboard yet. i took nearly all my classes eli (www), so i used blackboard frequently, but even my in person micro class used blackboard to post lectures and assignments. here's a link so you can check it out. https://nvcc.my.vccs.edu/jsp/home.jsp sadly, if you don't have access now, you'll probably have to wait. hope that helps.
