UTA Spring 2012

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

Alas! Here I go again!;) This thread is dedicated to all hopefuls to either of the programs- AP or traditional. Let's partake in the sharing of ideas, suggestions, and/or insight in the "intricacies" of this nursing program. Former grads, new or current students are encouraged to chat. Knowledge is power, indeed! Continued blessings and success to all! Good Luck!:D

@katybusymom....where else did you apply to?

Specializes in Med-Surg.

This is so disheartening....I almost feel like I am wasting my time.

@Libra1018...it is overwhelming! :crying2: But know that if that's where your supposed to be then it will happen! Have faith...that's the point I've come to!

@tejas03, I applied to UTHSC in Houston and to Lone Star Cy-Fair as backup.

Hello, everyone!

750 applicants...wow. Not surprising, though thanks to some creative online marketing. It's been a while since I've been on this thread, but it's looking like the place to be! Very sticky, indeed. For those of us who have been down this road before, unfortunately, it appears that this application period may be a repeat performance of the last application period. Although I am optimistic in attaining a spot...any spot for Spring 2012, I am more grateful to have listened to the opinions of others on this site and have applied to numerous other programs. That is my advice to those of you who are lurking on this thread...apply to other programs. Do not put all of your hopes, monies, and/or efforts on one institution. That was my mistake last application period to this school and you see what transpired.:eek: Be honest in assessing your situation and do what is required to achieve your goals, whether it's the LVN, ADN or BSN routes. All of those options have bridges! :D I'm curious to see how this will turn out. The saga continues...

Hey Mochachild...wondering where ya been?! :) Yes, this is the place to be...haha Spring '12 is definitely turning out to look even worse than Fall '11!! :eek: You have great advice!! I know you will be accepted somewhere! Can't wait to hear where!

I need to know what other colleges/universities waive the 5yr science limit? I will have Micro and A&P 2 current but my chemistry is about 10 yrs old and A&P1 is 7 yrs old...I hate to have to retake those 2 since I have A's in them now. I am going to have to start looking elsewhere now and start making a plan for the future.

@tejas03, TWU only has a few science limits. I think the only one you would have to retake would be A&P1. They don't mention a limit for chemistry on the website.

I have personally given up on UTA as a viable option for nursing school (that is, unless they change their policies). I'm not comfortable with spending any more money related to UTA when the chances of being accepted as un-partnered are so miniscule.

I think UTA should not offer the online program to non partnered students or at least be honest with them about their chances of getting accepted. I was silly enough to think that all I needed was a 3.0, a previous BS and complete my pre reqs at UTA. That is hog wash right now. I have not given up as I will apply but I am also going to apply to TWU weekend's program. I am taking Nutrition in the Fall to apply in February.

On another note is JPS really a partner hospital, my advisor didn't include that one at all on the list she emailed me. I hope it is, because I may have an inside contact for that hospital.

@tejas03

Hey, you! I hope your summer classes are going well. As far as your sciences are concerned, I'm afraid that you may have to retake the A&P since most schools have a five yr requirement; however, I think you can get away with the chemistry, but you may want to investigate that. I believe that you are one of the most prepared posters on this thread. If passion and perseverance were the only requirements in attaining a slot, then you would be a shoo-in!:yeah:

@MsMila...I honestly think your right. I can even say that from a non-partnered side...as much as I would love to get in to this program, I feel like UTA is ruining their reputation in the community by not being forth coming with the actual facts and percentages of how many applicants they take each semester. Seems like something has to give here and either way UTA needs to start making this info more readily available for people. No where on their website do they make mention of the non partnered spots available each semester. It's disheartening after spending the money on the Patho and Pharm classes that I may end up not even using them....what other colleges/universities take those two classes on transfer??

@Mochachild...you are so sweet!! I've missed your posts and missed your encouragement!! :) I have decided to go ahead and retake A&P 1 Oct 24th through AP at UTA (I'll have just finished A&P 2 and Pharm) just so I can have more options for the future. I will check into the chemistry with a couple different colleges around and see what they say.

My classes (Micro, Psych and Patho) are fast and furious...haha Micro by far has been the worst...I'm hanging in there and praying for an A. Psych and Patho have really been enjoyable and I have learned a lot! Just ready for the next 3 weeks to come and go...haha

How are your classes going?

@Zweiells...thank you so much...I will check into TWU. I have to start making a new plan B...lol

I am with you 100 % on the money thing...I just started thinking about that last night and had the same thoughts...it's likely it was a waste of money if these patho and pharm classes don't transfer anywhere! :( UTA does not mention that to you when you call and get info on the program...all they talk about is "how if you hurry up and sign up for these classes you'll be ready to start at the next application/start date"....ugh completely wrong!!! :( Disheartening!!

@tejas03

You are the BESTEST!:D My classes are fast and furious as well. I'm still trying to catch up! But thanks be to God for grace- every one of my professors extended deadlines since the beginning of the semester! Hallelujah! There's a chance that I may even pass these courses after all! :D

@MsMila

You are dead on. I've mentioned this before to another poster, but this will be my last attempt via this route; the RN-BSN is still a viable option. Because I've invested and sacrificed sooo much towards attaining admission to this program, I might as well see it through. As yourself, I also have a previous degree. It didn't earn me any additional brownie points then and more than likely won't now. Not trying to discourage anyone, but just trying to keep it real. Each one of us is the CEO of our own "corporation." Seek out knowledge and do what you must to protect your "investment."
