UTA online FNP ! Yay!

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

So I checked the academic partnership website and they now have an FNP online program through UTA. I was so excited that I now have the option to complete a MSN/FNP at UTA. Has anyone else considered this? The price tag was a little over $33,000 for 24 months. Sounds steep but can't imagine there isn't any graduate grants available.

That is what it says on the website. The FNP has to complete clinical hours in Texas and have a Texas license.

I was excited about this program until I found out a little more. I do like the price. It's $33,000, but they are offering an introductory price of $29,000 for the first couple of months, and if you work at a partnership hospital it's $27,000. My issue is that I don't think I can do 2 accelerated graduate level courses at the same time while working (even part time). I was assured over and over that it was only one class at a time until I added up the number of weeks of all the required classes. I asked how can the program be 24 months (104 weeks) if the classes total up to 130 weeks? She got back to me a few days later and told me it is 2 classes at a time. The last class is 10 weeks and requires 360 hours of clinical. There is no way I can work at all while completing 36 hours of clinical a week. I am bummed because I would like to stay at UTA, but I think a regular program will work better for me.

How do you know which hospitals they partner with?

Call them and tell them where you work. I work for a small country hospital and it is a partner. I know HCA hospitals are partnered with them. Honestly, I think lots of hospitals are.

I was looking into this program and barry university (orlando campus). if the price tag is what it is, I may have to reconsider the option because one of my coworkers informed me that it is online classes, but she would have to fly out there to do the skills test and exams. something along that line.

I am going to be interested to hear from some of the people once this program starts to find out how things are

There was a college fair at a local hospital this week and I spoke to the lady at the UTA table. She was very familiar with the online FNP program. Said they accepted about 40 students for the February start date and are working on April start date applications now. She said it is restricted to Texas nurses now because it's so new, but the eventual plan is to open it to all states, just like the BSN.
