UTA NURS 3425 Health Assessment to start 1-14-2013

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

This thread is for anyone taking Holistic health assessment on-line at UTA starting Jan 14th 2013. Hopefully we can get a good thread going in order to provide support for each other as we go. The more students who participate, the better it will be for everyone.

CONFUSED!

For the objective data the assignment directions state to use the proper sequence of assessment technique: Inspection, Palpation, percussion, auscultation. However, it also states to follow the text p. 81-82. There is no mention of heart tones, lung sounds, etc in the text. Are we to include these aspects of assessment or not?

hi registeredin06,

it seems to me we are only doing the items listed under phys assessment on p. 80 to 81, which does not include HR or lung sounds, even though we are doing "vital signs." i'm guessing that those things will be included later when we get to the cardiac and resp sections.

the proper sequence of inspection, palpation, percussion, auscultation comes into play in the week 2 assignment when we look at head, neck, ears, etc. in other words, you would "inspect" the head first and then palpate it for tenderness, then percuss the sinuses, 3rd. we need to make sure that is the order we follow.

just my opinion, so could be wrong.

I assumed the same, but got confused why all four techniques were mentioned in the rubric. I have an email out to coach, I'll let you know if WE DO NEED to include the others. I am kinda with you, this doesn't seem as bad as I expected so I am anticipating a lot of nit picky grading. I guess we'll see!

And...what's up with the example assigment?? An elderly oral assessment?? This doen's even pertain to our assignment. I don't know if I am looking at the wrong thing or what! Annoying.

Hi,I'm curious to know how much of the reading really is necessary? There is quite a bit and it's very detailed. Can you successfully pass the tests/quizes without thoroughly reading the text assigned reading? Also, someone mentioned quizzes don't open until Fri mornings? Is that correct? It looked to me that they are DUE by 0800 Fridays.
The quiz is open now, I heard someone say that they took the quiz's for the whole class already. What is this 30% of our grade, end test? 300 pages of readings! But, I looked ahead to our readings, for the next weeks and there are a lot of the same readings. I finally figured out That the subjective is from one book at the objective is from another. Geez, yeah the instructions are pretty vague! The videos didn't tell me much, unlike professional nursing, where most of the quiz's came from the videos!

HI!!! I'm so thankful to this forum. Quick question for you guys, in the subjective data portion, under PAST HISTORY, for History of Pain and Treatment. Should we do a COLDSPA if our client has a past history of pain?

Oh, and also are you guys using the textbook to answer the questions or just the lab manual.

For Example:

Family History

Hypertension?

Metabolic/growth problems?

is that all you will be answering for the Family history portion? or should we be expanding using the textbook?

sorry if my questions are confusing. i'm confused.

thank you again, all of you.

ScarletFire,

Was BIO 3309 hard? I got screwed and Im having to take it with my other classes. Two 5 week (3425&4455):Two eight week (Bio being one of them POLS the other) and a full semester of Lit on campus. I am a little intimidated right now......

I do believe that the subjective is the textbook and the objective is the lab manual, it states it in the assessment paper, figured this out last night!

Take biol 3309 when you can! Just found out that I have to have it and it is full for jan and march. I heard to take 3425 by itself.

Use as much expanded info as possible, like no tattoos noted. I used both books to help with assessments just to make sure nothing would be missed. Short hand is accepted and your spell-check will be going crazy. Incomplete sentences will abound, like “denies pain, cough, and numbness.” But only do the assessments that are asked for.

ScarletFire,

Hey, did you say that you have completed week #2 assignments. I was wondering if we use the same past medical history and family history including 3 generations that we did in week one assignments. Do we change it? Hope I am wording my question so it makes sense. Thanks

Hi Mansi,

good question. I think we do a COLDSPA for current symptoms only, rather than history. not sure why i feel this way, though. couldn't find an explanation listed anywhere, but the Sample Subj Data Collection uses one for Current Symptoms. Plus, the examples in the book seem to be for current problems. this is what i am doing.

I just finished week one assignments, and test. Like everyone has said, there is no guidance. I even emailed my coach and got reply of its in the example, good luck! I guess that we will have to wait and see how they grade week one assignments, to have a better grasp on how to move forward in week 2. Week one test basically just covers readings from chapter 1,2,3,4,7,8
