Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

I was considering going through this university for my RN- BSN.... The school claims the program is only 13 months and 6,450 if all you need are your core nursing classes... If you need pre-reqs it can still take you as little as 13 months, but it's an extra 349.00 per course... This seems very reasonable... Just wondering if anyone has gone through this program or is currently doing this program?

Specializes in ICU.

I've been buying my books on Amazon and find the cheapest used price. I am also starting with these 2 classes on the 26th! I'm glad to see someone else that will be starting the same time as me.

Specializes in Neurosciences, cardiac, critical care.
Do most people buy their books for these classes are rent? I would love some good suggestions for the cheapest way to go.

Thanks!

I'm sure we don't have the same books, but I've found my textbooks are cheaper renting than I could find on either ebay, half, or amazon- even used. I only bought one I knew I'd use throughout my program. (Replying here was easier than texting all that =D)

Alias007, what have you thought of taking those classes at the same time? What is the workload like for both? Do you have lots of papers, quizes, etc? I would appreciate any advice.

Jelly221, fancy meeting you here ;) Where have you been renting your books? I know I will just buy some of them but there are a few that make sense to rent.

ICURN099, do you plan to take a second class with Prof Nursing B? I might do one of my prereq classes but I am worried about overloading myself.

I'm planning on starting Prof. Nursing A and Statistics on Nov 7....I'm nervous and excited at the same time..I'm hoping I'm not biting off too much...

Specializes in Med.Surg/ Psychiatry.

Professional Nursing A & B are the same. They are just divided half way but they have one final grade. I enjoyed the class. Prof Nursing B is a lil more in-dept than A. I discovered that the general-ed classes are very condensed and demanding (at least most of them) than even the nursing classes. I love UTA so far and Im looking forward to getting these classes done so I can have my life back :). Good luck guys!

Hello everyone,

I am currently enrolled in my first semester at UTA, actually, the two classes I'm in now end today. I have 4 Gen Ed requirements left, but I already received credit for Tech Writing so I can enroll in Prof Nurs. A/B the next time it rolls around (Nov. 7). I have Fed Govt, State Govt, US Hist 1311, and College Algebra left to take. I was thinking of starting College Algebra on Oct 24, then the Prof. Nursing A class on Nov.7. Does anyone suggest a better idea? Should I just take all of the gen ed courses first? I really just want to get this program over with as quickly as possible.

Hi, I have finished 4 classes so far, and have 3 more general education classes. I took Professional Nursing A and B, then decided I am going to finish all the general education first. They are annonying so I just want to get them out of the way, plus the writing experience gained in them will help when all the nursing classes start I think.

Good Luck!

Can you tell me which gen Ed classes you have taken? I need Art, Govt (US & texas) and Literature. I think I may start one of the Government classes next week and would love advice on either. This would make next week very busy since I would be in the first week of the new class, and last week of Tech writing and Prof Nursing A. So it would be one painful week, but could save me a lot of time later. Again, let me know what you think!

I have taken ENG Composition II (5 week class) , Professional Nusing A and B (part A and B are 5 weeks each with a one week break inbetween, but are one class) US HIST I and US HIST II (eight week class) starting POLS 2311 next week (eight week class) it looks from the syllabus only to be quizzes and tests, no papers. History I and II had a lot of extra projects with them, and I quit reading the textbook for US History II, I just used the rest of the materials, and reading the book took too much time.

Was History I very intense? Did it have any papers? I know you said there were projects. Also, how insense was Prof Nursing A? Can it be done with College Algebra you think? Is Prof Nursing B doable with History I?

History I had a comprehensive final essay (last week of class) a powerpoint presentation (I was clueless about powerpoint, much easier for History II), a document project (week 4) that was a worksheet on a piece of literature you have to read, and how it relates to other areas you have been studying, and a group project where a learning community has to do a group wiki post) and pick a group leader that is willing to edit all the submissions from the group and post the final project). History II was not so bad because I was used to the format from Part I but you do have to read Upton Sinclair's book The Jungle and do a document worksheet on it. I listened to the audiobook but it was 13 hours long.

Professional Nursing A and B were interesting, you do a paper in steps that follows you through parts A and B, and must be good at using the UTA Library for database searching. I spent a lot of hours on that class, it was interesting but intense, I am glad I didn't take any other class with it. If you work full time, as most of us do that was a challenging class, but I did get an A (one grade for the entire class). I bought the APA handbook and had never done a paper with APA format before so that was difficult for me.

Thnks for responding. I do work full time +. I know I'll have to cut back on OT to get this done. I'm figuring that the Algebra should be pretty straight forward. I already have algebra but they didn't accept it, I guess because it was from a community college, idk.
