RN-BSN online at UTA Arlington

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

Hello everyone,

I just started my RN-BSN course at UTA online. The reason I chose this route is because UTA allows you to get into the program while you are still taking pre-requisites. However, I am finding the technical writing class (required), a little difficult and my academic advisor not very helpful. The instructions are not clear and I am feeling a little frustrated. The nursing courses are great, the advisor is very helpful and the instructions are clear. I just wanted to hear from other nurses out here who have been through this course at UTA or who are currently enrolled. Thanks!

Hi Powellrn, How was the writing class? Did you make it through okay? Thanks for any advice you can give regarding the courses. I am thinking of applying.

I've started the technical writing class through UTA. It is time consuming because all the the quizes, discussions, papers and like someone said some wks are harder to get through. The class is 5 weeks total and I have one more week left. Right now I am wondering how Professional A & B are through UTA is, I am really nervous actually. Any feedback anyone?

HEY anyone know if we need the access code with our "Concise Guide to Technical Communication" book by Gurak? I am trying to buy the book online, but can't tell if the access code/CD-ROM are included....does anyone know if we utilize anything else other than the book??? I start Prof. Nrsg A & Tech Writing on 09/26! Thanks!

Hello meeka, icurn099, and anaw. I am currently enrolled in UTA's RN to BSN program as well with both Prof Nursing A & B and Technical Writing that started 9/26...I would love to keep in contact as [email protected]

@Icurn099, I bought my book online for like $35 and paid an extra $15 for the access code. The book on the campus website is like $85. Sorry I'm late...you probably already bought your book by now.

@meeka, I would like to know how the technical writing class was for you. Please send me an email because I barely get on allnurses.

Thank you!!!

Someone asked about stats at UTA. I just complete my UTA stats class recently.

It's 8 weeks long. The instructor is really, really good and explains things very well. She gives excellent lectures and her examples are completely documented so there is no wondering where she came up with something.

I got an A and would recommend the class. The tests are all open book so it's nice to not have to memorize formulas.

Please note that I did not say it was easy. You do have to learn new concepts and statistics is different from algebra but it's not rocket science.

Oh, and buy a used Ti-83+ calculator. You won't use its advanced functions at all but it makes it easier to do some of the formulas, it's what the instructor uses, and sometimes she gives step by step dirctions for solving things using her Ti-83+. A used one is maybe $50. New are about $100.

HI everyone,

Am starting the program at UTA (RN to BSN) in nov. I enrolled for both technical writting and professional A & B. I have no idea whether this classes run at the same time. I wonder whether it will be too much to take both classes at the same time. Does anyone have any advice on what to expect. I will highly appreciate. Thanks.

I didn't have to take technical writing (prior credit) but I did have to take Prof Nursing A&B. My recommendation is to take Prof Nursing A&B by itself.

To i love bees.

Thanks so much for getting back to me. i really appreciate. How was pro nursing A & B. Was it hard? Was it time consuming or what did you had to do? Any advice is highly appreciated. Thanks again. You can email me at [email protected]

You need to buy an APA book, I believe it was APA made easy 6th edition, that is quite inexpensive. No other books. You write an APA paper during A about your personal philosophy of nursing. In B, you write an email to your congressman about an nursing issue of your choosing and also write an APA paper about a nursing issue (I used VAP prevention.) It sounds harder than it was - they know it's your first class so they give it to you in small chunks. It's quite doable. I'd still recommend taking it by itself because you'll be learning the EPIC system (EPIC is how you take the classes - it is software) and, at least for me, I think it's important to not burn yourself out. Subsequent classes are about the same, some with more more classwork, some with less, but at least you'll have an idea of what will be expected of you and you'll know if you can handle two classes at once.
