What to ask during floating?

So what are general things to know about floating? I just floated to general surgery for 3rd shift.

I got there late(because I had to give report on my original floor and no one told them I was coming). So my report was through someone else who just got it 10 minutes ago. On top of all of this. The day nurse said I should have made sure they ambulated.

I just stared at her and asked "So I should make sure they ambulate at midnight?"

She said "yes".

Is this for real? I hope she was out of it cause she was starting her day but who the hell gets their patient up at midnight to ambulate.

So back to the original question. What should I ask?

Ask for a copy of their routine care protocol, it will outline what basics you need to know. And ambulated at midnight? Yikes!

Yea.

I just recently floated to Ortho, So much better than my last float. I learned alot in what to ask and their charge nurse was super helpful with everything.
