I am currently thinking of taking 1-2 assignments in California. My husband having a very secure position here in Massachusetts will not be able to go with me for the entire assignment, although will have 2 weeks of vaca to come out and visit. Has anyone else taken an assignment without their S/O following along??? Thanks in advance:)

I have worked with many nurses that have left their husbands, as well as children at home. There are also other places to travel to that pay about the same and are much closer to you. :)

Our situation is reversed from yours....my husband comes with me, but then travels back east every 5-6 weeks for 3-4 week periods of time to see his clients. It gets a bit boring without him, because we enjoy exploring together, but you can explore by yourself-then show your husband around when he comes to visit! I go out occasionally with co-workers, but spend a lot of time exercising and doing OT when he is away!! I have found that I appreciate him so much more after he returns-it is worth the time spent away from one another!! Good luck.

I worked with 2 nurses in Santa Clara who traveled without their hubbies. They always took either a 4 - 8 week assignment first, took make sure they liked it. In the 8 week assignment they would take 1 week off in it to go home, or their husbands would come out to visit. The shorter assignments I think helped because it the liked, they could always extend. If the assignment was an ugly one, they knew it was short and they could go home and rest awhile before hitting the road again. They would local agency while at home till the next assignment.
