Travel Assignment to Cali

I am interested in a travel assignment specifically to San Diego, Ca. I was informed by an agency that it was not good to apply to so many agencies because it does not look good if a hospital sees your name too many times. I want to know if that's true. I have never traveled and am set on traveling in June. When would be the best time to start negotiations what is considered a good hourly rate for this area?

A lot of agencies have told me they don't have jobs for more than 1 month out.

I think June is wayyyy to far in advance.

i would apply for your CA license and be ready then you can apply in april/may for an assignment in June.

Thanks for the response. I do have my application for license in the works. I think that it may be a lengthy process.

You can have multiple companies looking for you but the key is not to have two companies submit to the same hospital. If the hospital sees your name twice they will assume you are trying to get the "best deal". I have several companies searching for me a position at one time but only allow one company to submit me to each hospital.

:yeahthat:

I had a game plan and it worked.

Before I first started traveling I called a bunch of travel agencies if they had a decent reputation. I asked to ONLY speak to a senior recruiter (skip the need to teach a newbee geography of the US). I had them tell me what they had to offer in what areas, felt out the recruiters and ONLY then did I give them my reference. I learned this via a mistake of giving another company my reference info and told them to not call until we were further along in the process and they called anyway. Bad bad.

After I weeded out the idiots ;) and bad pushy travel companies like ACCESS (really bad first impression) I sorted through job offers and only then told them they could submit my name. If a company sumbits you without your permission X them off your list. That is unprofessional.

This way I got what I wanted and it has turned out really well.
