stanford hospital in palo alto, ca

How anyone ever worked @ stanford in palo alto, california? I am starting my first travel assignment there in a week and was wondering if anyone knows anything about the hospital and the town that its in ?? How is the climate people and job?? Would greatly appreciate any info that could be delievered. thanks ... will update when I'm there! I'm so excited..

I just finished my very 1st travel assignment there! What area will you be working? I worked on E2 ICU, so I can tell you plenty about that.

So, Palo Alto is in the south bay area, about 30 min south of San Fran. Who knows where you will be housed. I know people housed in Foster City, I lived in Mt View (Silicon Valley), some are in Sunnyvale, Redwood city, Palo Alto, etc... Some of the permanent staff actually live in the city of San Fran & make the 45 min commute to work. For me, Mt View was too surburbian....but that's just me.

I have several friends who signed on permanently after a travel assignment. For me, I just liked it...didn't love it. But I think it's a good 1st assignment. They are traveler friendly, the docs were all nice, and the nurses are professional & intelligent. I was impressed with them. But, it depends on the unit you work.

The bay area is awesome. You will like it. The weather is sunny, but in San Fran the fog brings the coolness & winds. You are close to Napa Valley too...make sure you go there this month, I hear it's pretty in Oct.

Thank you so much for your info. It makes me feel good that you have just completed your first assignment there as well. I will be on 3B neuro. I am a neuro nurse and wanted a straight neuro floor. I am from Duke and was hoping that the two would be somewhat (at the least bit simalar). I hope to see lots while I am there. Which company are you with? Where are you going next? Sounds so exciting. I am not much of a surburbian person either. How did you travel by car or there transportation system? I am going to be living in Mountain View as well. I am beginning to wonder if we have the same recruter?? ha ha . Where did you drive to cali from??? Thanks again for all the info.

I'm with AMN, they have a contract w/Stanford. Yes, it will be similar to Duke. I lived in Archstone apts. I drove to work, took about 15-20 minutes. The farmers market in Mt View is awesome, you get free wifi b/c google is located in MT View & they offer it to all the residents, Castro St is the downtown, has some good restaurants (Cascal). Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto is awesome, and they have a cute downtown too.

You can take the caltrain into the city or you can drive. Exploring San Fran is fun on your days off.

I actually drove by car from Alabama! It was a really great experience to drive across country, I am so glad I did it. I stopped in Sedona & Santa Fe, and a few other places on the way.

i *loved* my assignment in the Neuro/Trauma ICU at Stanford!! I lived in foster city, so i had a bit of a drive (large dog friendly housing). I would have signed there but I wasnt a huge fan of the SF bay area in general.

Thanks for the advise. I just started orientation there and they seem very nice and organized so far. The weather is also awesome so far. I start on b3 monday so we will see how it goes. I am in a complex with multiple other traverlers so that is very nice. Hope you are enjoying where you are now. What company are you with or need I ask?

how do you like working for them? I am unhappy with my recruiter. However I am beginning to think that they are all like that probably. where are you working now? What have you heard about b3 at stanford?

Thats funny, I live in Mountain View! I drive to work and it doesn't take long. I'm not sure if there is a train that runs to Lucille Packard. I will ask someone tomorrow at work sorry.... We have about 6-7 travelers in my apartment complex. My first day on the floor was today and everyone was extremely nice. I work on b3. A lot of travelers in there ed. If you have any more questions please let me know. thanks

I will be at Oakwood. Just looking for an alternative way to work so my husband can have the car for work, since we only have one.
