Question to those who travel with spouse and kids

What does your spouse do? Do they work or do they just watch the kids? My SO watches our 2 year old and is completing his degree online but he's starting to get sick of not having his own money and wants to work. I'm thinking it would be better for him to stay at home especially since we'll be traveling to another state in 8 weeks but I'm curious as to what others do.

My wife quit her fed probation job and now takes care of our three year old. She has, at times, missed working. That is, until she thinks about getting up at 6am and being gone all day, missing out on hanging with our youngster. That's more important to her.

Wants his own money?

Well we're not married so we don't have a joint account. If he wants something outside of necessity he has to ask me for money. Maybe I shouldn't be such a purse nazi but I'm not his mother. I'm not giving him allowance so he can buy beer and cigarettes. But i digress. That's a whole different issue for a whole different board!

Oh, that sounds like a recipe for trouble. Figure out how much money your budget allows for a "fun fund" for him, so he can be an adult and make his own decisions about money without having to ask you each and every time. Especially since you two made a decision to have him stay home- something it seems you want to continue.

Think about jobs that require little training, and are low-risk/high-reward. Mine finds jobs in the service industry: barista, bartender, server. Hours are flexible and tips can be great. Those types of businesses don't expect employees to stay very long anyway.
