Question about canceling an extended contract - pls answer with experience

I had decided to extend a contract. I happily signed it. Then the hospital decided to make changes such as switch from night shift to day shift and have me float every unit as needed any time. I start this extension in a few weeks.

My contract did not specify if I worked day or night or how stable my schedule would be. I am unhappy with the scheduling changes. There is nothing in my contract about canceling. Could I still cancel the contract? What would be the consequences? Has anyone had a similar experience?

It's for med-surg and med-surg tele. I had spoken with the scheduling manager, she said she has no other options for me. She works on day shift only, I have never really spent much time with her. During the short time I interacted with her, I noticed a flat personality, a monotone voice of no concern for me, when I smile she frowns, no eye contact, etc. Generally the administrative staff are not very friendly.

I am working on reaching my agency for this (they are closed for the weekend and holidays!). I left a few emails so far.

Hmmm. In a my previous life I was in management. Any changes such as you list would be considered a change in expectations for the contract staff on the part of the hospital and would leave them open to having the contract canceled. Was there a particular unit you were working on? Do you have any sort of relationship with that unit manager? Maybe you could speak with him/her about the changes? Also, have you spoken with your agency about this? They would have experience in this area re: canceling of a contract and will know if you have an easy out or not.
Good luck!
