Need some advice about traveling.

Hi everyone::heartbeat

I am definitely thinking about traveling because I love adventure, knowing different places, cities and people. This idea of doing what I love the most, being a nurse and traveling is a very attractive idea for me. I started working in a very nice hospital, love the place and the people I work with. I thank God for giving me such a nice career, sometimes it's very stressful but I always have a positive attitude...it helps a lot. I will have my first year of experience this February 14, 2009. But this 2008 was very hard financially for my husband and I. My husband lost his job and he was out of work for some time:(. Since my spouse and I do not have any children yet I was thinking of being a traveling nurse after I have some experience.

I need some advice on traveling I heard there are quite a few traveling nurse companies that are not very good. Just trying to find out what companies are good or how to find the good from the bad.

Do I need to have a specialty such as ICU, ER Nurse or is being a telemetry nurse good enough to start?

And do some companies offer tuition assistance:twocents:, so I can do my BSN during the time I travel?

If you have some more advice I will really appreciate it... God bless!:nurse:

Specializes in ER, ICU, Neuro, Ortho, Med/Surg, Travele.

Research is your best friend. Make a list of needs, monetary, insurance, housing vs subsidy, etc. Then sent out your resume, you'll receive multiple phone calls. Interview them!! Remember, if it sounds to good to be true, it is.

Think about where you will and won't go. Don't let them push you into somewhere that you aren't comfortable.

Read the different post on the various websites. That will get you started.

By the way, there are teley positions available as well as med/surg.

Good Luck. If you want to speak to my people shoot me a pm.

Sounds like traveling is perfect for you and your husband! no rent/utilities is very nice, you will make more money (esp since your a new nurse). My boyfriend has been traveling with me for the past 2 yrs - he just gets a job wherever we go! all you need is 1yr of experience and med/surg tele is a great one to have. Ive been told there are many job opportunities in that area. Everyone has an opinion, and there are good and bad experiences with every company. I like cross country since they are large, have many job opportunities - ive always gotten a job where I wanted, they are pretty much hassle free, and on top of things. But I have heard that some people dont like them. But best of luck to you!
