I'm in San Antonio on assignment, I don't know if this goes for all of Texas or just where I work but if you're use to ancillary help say a small prayer. I haven't heard anything about Dallas first hand but good luck!

Thank you.. and honey no im not used to Ancillary help at all. We do mostly everything at the Medical Center where I work. Overall how is Texas?

I like Texas, I came here with the stereotypical mindset of seeing cowboys everywhere lol! Not true but I do see a lot of cowboy boots even the residents wear them! The weathers great, I'm not sure of the night life because I've never been out in San Antonio. They have a huge Hispanic community! I get a lot of Spanish speaking pt and families so I'm well acquainted with the translator phone!!! I work nights so Im not to sure of early morning traffic but it's busy around 1700-1900. The driving here is crazy the speed limit is between 60-75 depending where you're at. Streets are 35-45. You get from A-B mainly by freeway! They have a nice downtown with things to do both free and fee, the malls are wonderful I live by 4. Huge military city so tons of those guys wandering the town lol. San Antonio is ok to me for a shirt stay but I wouldn't wanna live here.

Dallas is a wonderful place to travel. They have great hospitals such as Medical City, THR, UT Southwestern and etc.... even the county hospital Parkland is better than most cities. There are tons of things to do in Dallas and you shouldn't have a problem meeting ppl.

LOL yes I kind of have the same mindset...cowboy boots and hats :) Thanks for the advice and tips. I have not heard anything bad about Texas yet. Just heard a couple people mention the nurse patient ratio. By the way , what is the nurse patient ratio were you are at? How long is your assignment and what company did you use?

Thanks jskgx2 for the advice. Im pushing away from Missouri as we speak lol. I live about 6 hours from DAllas so that would be a great assignment location. IM excited yet nervous at the same time! Which is Normal i Hope for FIRST time travelers , especially from small cities :)

Everything will be ok. Just remember nursing is nursing no matter where you go. The nurse ratio depends on the unit. I'm medical oncology so it's mostly 1:4 or 1:5. Good luck and I hope this helps. I might be going back to Dallas soon but IDK yet!

I work nights I signed up for a 8wk contract and they asked me to extend another 8wks, I'm thinking about staying. Usually it's 1:4 1:5 I've had one night I only had 3 best night ever lol!! The pt. load is pretty heavy at times and it can be hectic with no help except the other busy nurses. Where I'm at now they have on the schedule 1-2 nurses for some days and nights ?? scary!! The usually find help but still it's scary to know that, that's all the nurses they have set to work!

Oh and I am with nurse choice

Honestly to me the agency doesn't matter. As long as they offer the things I require and the assignment that I desire. It's all a game but you will learn :-)

What she said!! I'm with two agencies to make sure I get what I want from now on!
