Why the interest in calculating withholding taxes? Do you not trust your paycheck to be correct? Even if not correct, it all comes out in the wash on your tax return.

I use the calculator when I get quotes for gross amounts on travel assignments. Anytime I get quote for taxable amount I use the calculator to see what my take home will be.

Perhaps a better way to do that is to use the travel specific PanTravelers Calculator. Besides estimating taxes, it also provides you numbers you can use to compare different offers on a level playing field. Those numbers are also useful to help negotiate offers, and juggle tax-free and taxable compensation without changing total compensation - some agencies really get you there (recruiters are no better at math than nurses) and the Calculator can help keep them honest.

No, PanTravelers is not tied into a tax database and so cannot calculate income taxes down to the city level, but it is close enough for the important purpose of comparing different offers. I've always used paycheckcity (well seldom as I don't need that kind of accuracy) for withholding tax calculation. I'm in Ohio and besides federal and state, it will also calculate local and school tax. While all withholding is really just an estimate in some regards, paycheckcity's tax engine is used by more payroll companies than any other. So the numbers may match your actual paycheck exactly. None of them will do multistate taxation on the website, which is what you really need as a traveler. Not all payroll companies can do multistate, but as travelers working in say Vermont, you want Vermont taxes withheld primarily, and if your home state taxes are higher, it needs to withhold the difference to your home state. Otherwise you end up paying out of pocket at the end of the year.

Been to that site in the past. I did not want to be a member, when other free tools available. Plus you can get free recent feedback on facebook travel nurse groups on rates. I am in Texas so no messy state tax for me.

The free basic membership on PanTravelers gets you the Calculator. What does Facebook have to do with comparing offers? Someone else does the math for you?

People post their rates. You can post your contract quote and get immediate feedback on recent trends for the area. I found it helpful which is about the best thing I can say about facebook.
