Hi Im looking for some info from you seasoned travelers I will soon be starting my first assignment interested in some insight into the highest paying locations and those hospitals that allow you lot of overtime looking to make a lot of money in a short time would appreciate input on this much needed info thanks Debbie

Fastaff...highest pay, they take care of getting you there and back...all you need to take is your suitcase...I had great experiences everywhere they sent me...also...if you want to make a lot of money fast...work strikies...I loved it and do not regret it one bit...if you work a strike..you are not a "SCAB"...a scab is someone who works for the hospital and crosses the line to work during a strike...technically all you are is a replacement nurse..I wanted the nurses to get all they were asking for but felt the patients had the right to be hospitalized in their own neighborhood and not be forced to go further away from home to get good nursing care. I also enabled the nurses who were on strike to go out and fight for their cause without "losing" their jobs pemanently...anyone who talks bad about replacement nursing does not understand how the system actually works...anyway...I highly recommend Fastaff and I am not on their payroll...just a satisfied traveller

Well I work with Faststaff nurses at the hospital I work staff at, and I have to say I'm quickly becoming annoyed beyond belief about them being there. Why you say?

Well because they are guareteeded their hours, the staff gets cancelled. Yes, the hospital won't honor our hours. We have been cancelled the first shift of our work week, because they had Faststaff nurses on that day. Where I use to be able to work one shift overtime per week, its almost impossible now. Why wont hospitals recognise that their Best assest is a home grown nurse who cares about her community. Pay us instead of paying travel nurses who dont have the same commitment as we do!!

Thanks for the rant. I needed it!!!

rI must say I find your convoluted rationalizing typical of those who attempt to justify their crossing of picket lines. Enabled nurses who were on strike to go out and fight for their cause?? On the contrary. Strike-breaking nurses allow management to push striking nurses to the wall during negotiations, knowing that their profits remain safe. Notice I said profits and not patients. And after being in unions for over thirty years and participating in a strike three years ago that lasted seven weeks, I understand quite well how the system works. Perhaps a check of the dictionary might clarify the definition of scab for you. Check out definition number three:Main Entry: [1]scabPronunciation: 'skabFunction: nounEtymology: Middle English, of Scandinavian origin; akin to Old Swedish skabbr scab; akin to Old English sceabb scab, Latin scabere to scratch --more at SHAVE Date: 13th century1 : scabies of domestic animals 2 : a crust of hardened blood and serum over a wound 3 a : a contemptible person b (1) : a worker who refuses to join a labor union (2) : a union member who refuses to strike or returns to work before a strike has ended (3) : a worker who accepts employment or replaces a union worker during a strike (4) : one who works for less than union wages or on nonunion terms 4 : any of various bacterial or fungus diseases of plants characterized by crustaceous spots; also : one of the spots Pronunciation Key© 2001 by Merriam-Webster, IncorporatedMerriam-Webster Privacy Policy

I agree with you, Jodyangel...that is why I will never work as a staff nurse again..your hospital administration as well as most others, show no respect to their staff nurses who will come in at the drop of a hat and think nothing of cancelling them if they have travellers with guaranteed hours...and as long as there are nurses, working staff positions, that will put up with this, then they will continue to do it...I will never give my loyalty to any one hospital again.

You are so entitled to your opinion, as am I, and thank you for sharing Webster's take on the subject as well...I would love to continue this debate with you on a more appropriate forum...if you have paid dues for 30 years, I understand your strong stance on the subject...if you didn't, then those thousands of dollars you've spent over the years were in vain. I feel that the unions are out for themselves or they wouldn't let strikes go on for over a month, as that is how long the hospitals have to wait before their insurance kicks in...but I am sure you have an answer for that as well...

I know the hospitals only consider patients as moneymakers, and I also know nurses are expected to work under horrific conditions and need a way to stand up for themselves...I just don't happen to believe that being unionized is the answer...it is the patients that suffer...let me know if you'd like to continue this debate and I will be glad to join you.

i know North california pays more than Southern cali. Arizona pay is about 30$ with pd. housing. Be sure to ask the facility what their policy is re. travelers and overtime. Worked at a couple that would work short in er rather than have travelers do overtime unless they were desperate.

I am intereste in your company.can u pm me?thanks

If you want the big money work strikes they will usually get you to work 6-7 days a week. I worked for a company out of california Called "globalnursesonline.com" was making over $50/hr out in California when I took the stipend instead of the apartment (Had an RV I lived in). The point I want to make is there is a reason you are going to make good money as the hospitals are usually a dive and they are not "magnet" hospitals by any stretch. I can tell you my last week working for them in Fresno I worked 7 12-hour shifts in a row and my last paycheck for ONE WEEK was over $4700. I never saw less than $3000 per week with them.

How do you like San Diego....I am thinking about taking an assignment there....I would love to hear what you have to say....you can email me or post...whichever ...thanks

My understanding is that Fastaff does 48 hour assignments, sounds like a place to start for you, built in extra day every week.
