  1. COB and proud of it-in fact would like it added after the RN on my name tag. Don't think administration would go for it though.
  2. Our hospital - a level 1 trauma center - is trying to become a magnet hospital with a goal of 100% BSN nurses. In the ED on nights we are chronically understaffed , stressful in itself but some of the new hires have no critical care or ED experience. To manage stress I keep work and home well separated.
  3. Being the rebel that I am when it comes to "mandatory" regarding my health if they push the issue where I work I will refuse the shot and "wear" the mask-----pinned to my uniform (they don't specify where it has to be worn on my body) I have been working in ED since 1979 and the only time I got sick with the flu was after a mandatory flu shot.
  4. I get asked all the time-"are you tired, you look tired"-Now I just say Nah need an eye lift , want to donate?
  5. You did nothing wrong. Your patient is an adult and has the right to make decisions for himself. The nurse family member was way out of line and inappropriate as was your nurse manager.
  6. Congratulations - you will always remember that day you got that letter. Though it will be tough hang in there. I have been nursing for 40 years and even with all the ups and downs I can't think of anything else I would rather be doing.
  7. As I nurse of 40 years all I can say is WOW. Hospitals are so concerned with Press Ganey scores and "client" satisfaction they forget patient outcomes some times. Be thankful you didn't get that job. It doesn't matter how many times you go "above and beyond" focus will be on what you did "wrong".
  8. I work in a busy level 1 county type ed,the last thing I want to do on my first day off is be around people. Add that to working nights and sometimes I think I could be very happy living in a cabin in the woods with just me and my cats.
  9. I feel for you. I have been at this business for almost 40 years. Right now I am staff only because finances dictate it. Was a travel nurse for years and though it sometimes was a pain to pack up and move every 13 or so weeks there was no hospital politics to deal with. Had good and bad assignments but even a bad assignment had an end in sight.
  10. Which Kaiser in LA? Kaiser hospitals are hit and miss. Some are good and some are bad. I finished an assignment you couldn't pay me enough to go back to.
  11. My other question would be What are his skin vitals? pink, pale, warm, cool, dry clammy...???

In response to Jen2,I know how you feel. I just finished a travel assignment where many of the physicians who because of their "Culture" treated us with less respect than my male counter parts. Each wanted us to drop what we were doing and do their task first. Don't think they ever heard of priority setting.Had a few try to talk down to me,didn't take them long before they realized that it wasn't going to fly with me.
  13. Heard Kaiser oakland was traveler friendly. Hit and miss with Kaisers, stay away from Bellflower Kaiser. Considered going there(oakland) because i had worked with a couple of nurses who liked it. Took an assignment in Oceanside instead
  14. A lot depends on where you want to work. In california north makes more than south for me about (I'm in the southern part) 2-7$/hr difference. Arizona pays about 30-33 an hr. I travel to see different sights.
  15. Does the hospital use any agency? May want to see and if not in contract switch agencies work at same hospital
