Contacting specific hospital for travel assignment?

If you have a specific hospital that you would like to take an assignment with, is it appropriate to call that hospital to ask what agency they use if any? There are so many travel nurse agencies and so far I haven't found any with the particular opening where I want.

Specializes in Peds, ER/Trauma.

Maybe that facility just doesn't have any openings....

The hospital website has plenty of openings listed.

The hospital can have plenty of openings but that does not mean that they use travel nurses. Not all facilities do.

There are quite a few areas where you do not see travel nurses, the facilities are able to staff their units with their own staff or per diems, or local agency. And there are hospitals that have their own contracts and place the nurses in apts that they keep near the facility, and the nurse contracts directly with them.

If you are interested in a specific hospital and you know your agency has used that facility before and maintains a contract with that hospital, and your agency does not have any current openings there right now, you can still request your recruiter send your info there, this sends out a "cold feel" to see if they can get anything opened up for you. Otherwise it never hurts to get the managers name and number of the unit you are interested in and call...ive done it before and got jobs! Just say...my recuiter told me that in the past travelers have really liked your floor and I was wondering if you have any needs for travelers coming open and that you would like to be considered. I had a manager tell me once that she would be having some openings and would put me on her list of interested tavelers. It never hurts to ask, whats the worst they could tell you? "no"?...but at least you tried.

It is completely appropriate to call and ask what if any staffing agency the hospital uses.

They may not use travelers, or may have no needs posted for months, but at least then you will know instead of searching through all the offers.
