I would like to travel but don't want to give up my PRN job at this time. In the pass as a traveler in-between assignment It was stressful not knowing if you would get the next assignment or cancelled contract. I am looking for travel companies who has strike assignments? Your input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There is no such critter as best strike company, basically by definition. They are all bad. Still, if you want to read about them, go to the old scab dot org forums, now MobileRN, to read actual strike nurse posts. A good review is very rare.

There is one possible exception and that would be Freedom. They get good reviews from travelers and also do strikes. I've never worked for them for just that reason (especially now that Crystal no longer works there). Agencies already tend to treat travelers as a commodity rather than an asset and strike companies further the commodization process to a much higher degree. After all, their entire business model is based on undercutting employer power, think about how that impacts relating to their own employees. Get it? You will see that reflected in most reviews.

HealthSource Global always has a bunch of strikes. I've worked with them before with no complaints although they were recently acquired by AMN so for that reason alone, a lot of nurses will bash them.

Wow, really? AMN owns Healthsource Global? Wild. Damn octopi! Frankly, I'm more likely to bash AMN in the future for acquiring HSG, rather than the company they were before.

I did a couple things for HSG. Every time they eventually paid me for driving rather than flying, but it took a couple months each time and a few calls.

Specializes in ICU.

Huffmaster. Huffmaster's travel division Blue Force run away from.

US Nursing I did not care for.

I just found this interesting list on CNA's site. Some comments: Medical Solutions (Omaha) owns On Assignment and its former strike subsidiary Nurse Bridge. Travelmax is a subsidiary of Maxim, one of the largest per diem companies with 360 offices. It is possible that Freedom (who I mentioned above) is no longer doing strikes. Anyway, this looks like a complete list of strike companies. Never heard of the "Modern" ones before.

Please support your fellow RNs by refusing to accept contracts at facilities on strike, or from the following agencies with a history of strike-breaking:

  • Advanced Clinical Employment Staffing (ACES)
  • Crisis Nurse
  • FASTAFF
  • Health Source Global Staffing
  • Healthcare Contingency Staffing Services, Inc.
  • Huffmaster Crisis Management
  • Modern Industrial Services
  • Modern Staffing & Security Consultants, Inc.
  • Nurse Bridge
  • TravelMax
  • US Nursing/ US Nursing Corp

Right now HSG has all the strikes (except for the NY strike; Vital Response has that). If you want to go on a strike this year you will have to sign up with HSG. They outbid all the other companies. I think they currently have between 7-10 possible strikes. Huffmaster and Nurse bridge have Minnesota only because 6000 nurses are expected to walk. HSG has Minnesota too though.

Outbid, or underbid?
