Hi fellow nurses! I am just starting to browse around about this. I have three kids- 4, 2, and a baby. Our family needs some good money ASAP and I used to travel a long time ago. I see lots of positions in big cities like Oakland and San Francisco and I am concerned about how family-friendly they are. Any tips would be great.

There are a lot of families in San Francisco and Oakland. Of course you can say that about any place. Can you define what would make a particular city family friendly?

Hey! thanks for your response! We're coming from a suburban area, so we don't have a clue about city life with kids. For example, keep or ditch the car? How's public transportation? Walkability? Crime rates? Parks? Available preschools? Libraries and kid's programs? These are things to compare between the two cities. I could certainly google, but it would be nice to hear from someone who's been in these particular areas. I haven't been to SF in almost 20 years.

As you probably know, there are dozens to hundreds of neighborhoods in every city plus the suburbs: every one with a different flavor and pluses and minuses. I doubt anyone's input will help you at this stage but you probably want a local forum for more info. If you are lucky enough to find a traveler here who has also traveled to those cities, they will probably only be able to relate their experiences at one housing location only.

Thanks Ned! I will look into a local forum. Good advice.
