Re: Anyone to Denver???
Okay, here goes.
This link shows the Law Suit lost by HCA to the Federal Government for Fraud totaling 840 million dollars. It is in several categories and is interesting to read:

Here is an interesting article, granted from 1997, about how ruthless HCA is. It is sited as one of the 10 worst corporations in America. Here is an interesting quote from the Mark Garner, a (Former) Company Manager of three Hospitals: "Let me tell you this -- this company is a ruthless, greedy company -- period," Gardner told ABC's 20/20. "Employees are the largest operating expense. Cut that to the bone. Cut nursing to the bone. I mean, cut it to as low as your conscience will allow."
Gardner told 20/20 that staffing at Columbia's Sunrise facility in Las Vegas was so bad that his wife decided that if she ever became ill, she would go to the hospital across town.
Here is a more current blog regarding HCA on observations of control of the government via political affiliation:

My own experience with HCA included an enticement to sign on with them for more money then my regular Denver Agency that was being squeezed out of assignments. I did eventually sign up with HCA (All About Staffing). Then, the pressure began (after a few months) to take a contract for less money; eventually, my Per Diem hours with HCA were minimal too. Their policies were difficult for the Nurse. We could be called off within 2 hours (no guarantee of hours), we could be floated to a different Facility across town (even after showing up at the Facility you were assigned to), we were heavily coerced to take a “guaranteed shift of hours” with a contract for less pay (and this was less pay etc. then my original Agency).

In general, the Evil Empire coin started with Cross Country and American Mobile (conglomerated corporations and affiliations). These include:
(Cross Country’s for recruiting Nurse’s)
Assignment America
ClinForce
Cross Country Local
Cross Country TravCorps
MedStaff
MRA
NovaPro
(American Mobile recruiting for Nurses)
American Mobile Healthcare
Medical Express
NursesRx
Preferred Healthcare Staffing
HRMC
O'Grady-Peyton International
O'Grady-Peyton Continuity
O'Grady-Peyton Connect Select
Staff Care
Merritt Hawkins & Associates
Nurse Choice
RN Demand
Now, the term “Evil Empire” includes Intelistaf, RN Network, and HCA. I hope that clears it up, on the term, Evil Empire.
I do not just dislike them because I was duped. I doubt I will ever work for one of their Facilities again. Perhaps, with time, they can clean up their act but it is unlikely, IMHO. I will never forget the way I was treated as an Agency Nurse. I was dumped on, not given the better equipment (pumps, BP machines); the C N A’s would call my cell and dump on me (ewww… I am having flashbacks...), nope, not me, thanks.
I can tell you, as I have said before; I do not go back to facilities that treat me poorly. I am not treated like that now. I was not treated like that at others facilities that I worked at in the same area (with one facility exception).
If you can take the time, to read through the many blogs, articles, and comments posted with a Google Search, you will see other harsh treatment of Nurses and their opinions.
I do hope you have better luck. Please let us know how you make out.
