Anyone to Denver???

Hi all, I'm thinking of taking me 3rd traveling assignment in Denver and have an interview with Rose Medical Center ICU, anyone ever been there?? Any advice is greatly appreciate

I have worked there as a Per Diem Agency Nurse. It is a Magnet Hospital. I was on the Med Surg tele floor; they did dump on their Travelers (I think the Travelers had more preference then the Per Diem Nurses who were Agency) and AGency Nurses but I was encouraged to speak up by the House Supervisor. I chose not to and moved on.

They are part of the HCA Group A/K/A The Evil Empire (All About Staffing).

I think, if you get your needs clarified with the DON, you might fair better. I was there about two years ago. It is also a very pretty hospital; I did like working on the PACU Floor a lot better but they were severely understaffed and kind of "had " to be nice so they could staff the place.

I have seen quite a few references to the Evil Empire, but haven't been able to piece together exactly what/who it is. Can someone explain to those of us in the dark? :-) Thanks!

I am so glad someone else asked about the "Evil Empire". I have looked thru several threads to try to find out what it is. Hope someone answers you.

i found this in another thread. had trouble getting it to quote here but it gives some info!

i know the next question is who is the evil empire. it is a group of travel agencies that are all owned by one conglomerate. here is part of there annual report filed with the sec:

we use a multi-brand recruiting strategy to enhance our ability to successfully attract healthcare professionals in the united states and internationally. our separate recruitment brands are american mobile healthcare, medical express, nursechoice in demand, nursesrx, preferred healthcare staffing, thera tech staffing, medtravelers, mti staffing, rn demand, o'grady-peyton international, merritt, hawkins & associates, and staff care, inc.

of course you do not know that you are working for one in the same company because they will not tell you this up front!

good, you can find that by using the search feature (4th from the right orange toggle bar); i always use the advanced search as it will give you the responses in posts not threads. here is the sites link, here on allnurses:

now, i am trying to figure out, why hca is not on the list. i am hoping i am not confusing them "with" that list. i need to do a bit of research as i go through some stuff. also, i plan to share some more of my own experiences with hca.

Okay, here goes.

This link shows the Law Suit lost by HCA to the Federal Government for Fraud totaling 840 million dollars. It is in several categories and is interesting to read:

http://www.usdoj.gov/opa/pr/2000/December/696civcrm.htm

Here is an interesting article, granted from 1997, about how ruthless HCA is. It is sited as one of the 10 worst corporations in America. Here is an interesting quote from the Mark Garner, a (Former) Company Manager of three Hospitals: "Let me tell you this -- this company is a ruthless, greedy company -- period," Gardner told ABC's 20/20. "Employees are the largest operating expense. Cut that to the bone. Cut nursing to the bone. I mean, cut it to as low as your conscience will allow."

Gardner told 20/20 that staffing at Columbia's Sunrise facility in Las Vegas was so bad that his wife decided that if she ever became ill, she would go to the hospital across town.

Here is a more current blog regarding HCA on observations of control of the government via political affiliation:

http://effectmeasure.blogspot.com/2005/10/frist-next-delay.html

My own experience with HCA included an enticement to sign on with them for more money then my regular Denver Agency that was being squeezed out of assignments. I did eventually sign up with HCA (All About Staffing). Then, the pressure began (after a few months) to take a contract for less money; eventually, my Per Diem hours with HCA were minimal too. Their policies were difficult for the Nurse. We could be called off within 2 hours (no guarantee of hours), we could be floated to a different Facility across town (even after showing up at the Facility you were assigned to), we were heavily coerced to take a "guaranteed shift of hours" with a contract for less pay (and this was less pay etc. then my original Agency).

 In general, the Evil Empire coin started with Cross Country and American Mobile (conglomerated corporations and affiliations). These include:

(Cross Country's for recruiting Nurse's)

Assignment America

ClinForce

Cross Country Local

Cross Country TravCorps

MedStaff

MRA

NovaPro

(American Mobile recruiting for Nurses)

American Mobile Healthcare

Medical Express

NursesRx

Preferred Healthcare Staffing

HRMC

O'Grady-Peyton International

O'Grady-Peyton Continuity

O'Grady-Peyton Connect Select

Staff Care

Merritt Hawkins & Associates

Nurse Choice

RN Demand

Now, the term "Evil Empire" includes Intelistaf, RN Network, and HCA. I hope that clears it up, on the term, Evil Empire.

I do not just dislike them because I was duped. I doubt I will ever work for one of their Facilities again. Perhaps, with time, they can clean up their act but it is unlikely, IMHO. I will never forget the way I was treated as an Agency Nurse. I was dumped on, not given the better equipment (pumps, BP machines); the C N A's would call my cell and dump on me (ewww... I am having flashbacks...), nope, not me, thanks.

I can tell you, as I have said before; I do not go back to facilities that treat me poorly. I am not treated like that now. I was not treated like that at others facilities that I worked at in the same area (with one facility exception).

If you can take the time, to read through the many blogs, articles, and comments posted with a Google Search, you will see other harsh treatment of Nurses and their opinions.

I do hope you have better luck. Please let us know how you make out.

Thank you very much for all the information!

Nightingale, Thanks so much for the info. That explains some things for me. I did not work for one of those agencies but actually took an assignment to LV, Sunrise. That was so horrible. I loved the area but could not stay because of my concern for patients and MY LICENSE. I went to the supervisor, after talking to my agency, and was told that maybe I was just not suited for a Level 1 Trauma. (I have worked one before with no problems) Anyway, no change. I am not sure that I can even relate this horror, so my company pulled me. I came home and thought "I will never travel again". Time heals wounds but I will assure you that this time, I am doing alot of investigation before I leave the farm! Happy Trails

There is a reason that the guy who was malled by his tiger went back to California to complete his recovery in the hospital.

I am glad you are revisitng the thought of Traveling; I am also glad you are checking out your options. ;)

I interviewed with Rose Medical Center for an OR position and was not at all impressed. I did take an assignment at a smaller hospital in Westminster, CO. About 10 min outside Denver. Nice area, hospital, friendly staff. But too small/private for me. I'm used to working at Level 1 Trauma Centers/Teaching Facilities.

Good-morning Im new to travel nursing and starting my first assignment in Denver. Going to start with Parker, any previous experience with this hospital. It would be greatly appreciated. Also, have been calling around to find a camp site for my travel trailor and its unbelievable the cost didnt know if you knew of any area around the Southeast side that might be a little cheaper. Have a great day
