Any Nicu Travel Nurses?

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I'll be graduating in May. Haven't found a job for after graduation yet - also looking to get into Travel nursing. I'm sooooo excited for you!! I'm doing my practicum in NICU right now and I like it. My original love is L&D but the practicum is really enticing me to NICU.

The bigger NICUs with more specialty areas actually want more than the two years of experience.

Come back and post after you have been working there for about two to three months and see how you feel. There is just so much for you to learn, you will be quite surprised at all that you will learn as well as be expected to know. It won't make any sense until you really get started with full-time work in the area.

Look at the orientation that you will be getting, then think of walking into a place and be expected to hit the floor running, perhaps getting a day or two to orient to where things are, and possible their computer system, but that is it.

Just pretend that you are a sponge when you get started and try to absorb every single thing that you can.

Don't get discouraged, I am a seasoned NICU flight nurse after 10 years I moved on to Emergency....There is always lots to learn my love of NICU wil never go away but my age says give it a rest..
I worked in St John's and we had a non-physician team consisting of a RT and RN....LOts of advanced skills and medical shared nursing procedures...
You both sound so excited you'll love it..

hey...i've been a NICU RN for almost 3 years and started traveling after a year of experience, but i think i should've waited to get 2 years under my belt before starting. but this also all dependant on how quick of a learner u are and ur critical thinking ablities...good luck!
