American Traveler??? Advice? Good/Bad

Hi. I have been talking with a Recruiter from American Traveler. She called me just about every day about a position will I was out of town just 2 days after I requested information. From what I have read this is a good thing?? Has anyone worked with them or offer any advice for a first time traveler. RN for 3 years. Everything she said sounded good but Im new at it. Please help!!! :rotfl: :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

I am on my first assignment with American Traveler and am very pleased! My apartment is great and close to the hospital. I was a nervous first time traveler and my recruiter helped me thru it all! Definitely plan to keep traveling with this company. :)

Have never heard a thing about them, nor have I seen anything posted here before about them.

All I can say is really do your research and make sure that you get everything, and I mean everything in writing. Do not go on the word of your recruiter alone, as he or she may no longer be there when something comes up that they had promised you. Your contract is with the agency, not the recruiter.

What type of benefits have they offered? Do you get private housing with all utilities included? Is the apt fully furnished with linens and towels? What about health insurance? What happens if you need to cancel your contract for some reason, how much will you have to pay them back for housing, etc.?

These are things that you need to know up front.................

Thanks for your replies. I must say my recruiter was very through and always returned my calls and email promptly. Right now I won't be using her but I will difinely keep her in mind. When we went to write the contract she told me were thing she was going to put in it and even asked if I needed any days off for special things which I didn't even think about. She was really great and even got me more living allowance. Super nice!!!

Why are you needing a living allowance in there? What are they not offering to pay for in the first place?

I have to agree with Suzanne. What living allowance are you talking about? I know Nationwide Nurses goes by a perdiem chart that the government puts out that tells them what they are allowed to pay depending on the city the traveling nurse is working in. If the company you are talking with told you they were increasing your perdiem, then they weren't giving you all the perdiem they were allowed to give you to begin with. There is only so much that is allowed by law to be considered nontaxable, no matter what company you work with.

I am in the process of trying to get a local travel assignment with American Traveler. My recruiter (Barbara) is very nice and knowledgeable. I am going to try a local assignment first before I venture over to California.

I have worked w/ ATSP for almost 3 years and the only problems I have had is when the hospital didnt send in my time sheets( Kronos Clock ), also they have a client services department that calls to check up on you and make sure everything is ok but this lady calls at the worst times :)

They have sent me many gifts for B-day, x-mas, and nurses day. I would recomend them yes.

My experience with the company, American Traveler, has been good. However, I am having a horrible time at the hospital and no one(at AT) seems to do anything about it. This hospital is dangerous. They are soooo short staffed that we have 40-50 hold patients, most waiting for ICU beds. In the meantime ER nurses are taking care of 4 ICU patients when up in the unit they would have 2/1 staffing. This is a dirty, dangerous place. And AT has listened to me but no one is telling me what I could do about it. I am ready to "jump ship". I have not ever broken a contract nor left anyplace early but it is getting tempting. Does anyone have any ideas. I have talked to the company and the hospital. The company is sympathetic and the hospital says we are all in the same boat. But I believe we have to take care of our license.
