Any other travel nurses running into this Low pay in 2016? Talked with several travel companies and getting quoted rates of $600-800 gross pay when company provides furnished housing. Than wanting $318.00 weekly for family health insurance (family of 4)!

When I traveled in 2009 used NursesRx and made $1200 weekly bring home with furnished housing with utilities, medical/dental/health insurance, & travel reimbursement/nursing license reimbursement.

in 2012 went to US Virgin Islands with flight covered, rental car, utilities, condo on beach housing, and health insurance making $1000.00 weekly bring home traveling with family of 3.

whats the difference?

Any suggestions on companies paying good with housing covered?

Even taking stipend doesn't cover moving cost and housing in areas.

One difference is that the agency insurance back then was probably extremely cheap (and basically worthless if you tried to use it). You may still be able to find small agencies not subject to the ACA with that same crappy insurance if you look harder. $1,300 a month for family insurance is the right ballpark and probably still has a big deductible.

Can't afford it, and your own comprehensive search cannot come up with acceptable compensation as a traveler? Go staff. A little secret, there is no such thing as a permanent job. Take a staff job somewhere interesting for a year, and move on to another interesting location.

If your pay is really that bad, travel is not for you. If you can't make a good profit, do what Ned says. Go staff. I used to insure my kids using Hawk-I. In Iowa that's the plan for kids if your under a certain income. 10 bucks a month per kid. That allowed me to stay on single plan. Thanks to the ACA affordable insurance no longer exists unless you can qualify for the stupid tax credit. Try seeing if you qualify for that, it's worth a lot if you can, but you have to be practically destitute to get it. I made 41k taxable last year and my obamacare for one person would have been 650/month for the crappy plan. I feel your pain. And hope you can figure something out. Elections have consequences folks. And that's the last political statement I will ever make in an open forum. But facts are facts. I wish you well.

Intensive Care RN with 9 years experience just wondering if I am looking at the wrong agencies. Was Making $37 per hour staff ICU/IMCU in Atlanta Georgia before taking off for maternity leave in Jan. We just wanted to go see something different for the summer.
