UTHSC-Houston BSN Summer 2013

U.S.A. Texas

While I'm part of the discussion forum for the UTHSC-Houston fall 2013, I couldn't see any discussion forum for the summer 2013 entry that I decided to create a new thread. I have applied both for the summer and fall, 2013 at UTMB and UTHSC. I have submitted all my application documents to both schools and I'm patiently waiting for interview/decision. Anyone in the same situation?

Hi all....I got a call today that I was accepted into the summer start accelerated program....I was on waiting list for Spring and they offered this program today! I'll keep watching for acceptances and we can start a group FB page....good luck!!!

Congrats!! I am starting in May too! The same thing happened to me. Let me know if a FB page is created. Good luck to everyone!! Even if you make the waitlist there is still hope.

Yeah!!!! I hope others from here that were waitlisted get in too!!!! I am still getting over the shock!

Congrats to you guys!! Do you mind sharing what they told you when they called?? Also, what were you guys stats if you don't mind me asking (GPA and HESI)?

I've applied to the summer start program as well, but was told that we will not find anything out until around March.... I'm nervous Nelly here!!

Thanks so much!! When I applied for Spring '13, my prereq gpa was a 3.2 and my science was 3.4, Hesi - 91% w/860 in critical thinking. It went up since then because I was finishing some prereqs in the fall. I don't know if they considered those grades or not though. My previous degree is in advertising (UT-Austin). I got a call the week before classes started which gave me very little time. I decided to wait for the summer term because admission was guaranteed. :) I encourage everyone to apply because you just never know! The wait will seem long but just try to keep busy until then. Best of luck to you!

Thanks! They told me they pulled my name from Spring wait list and were calling to offer me a spot in the summer start program. My stats were 3.5 overall (because of some low grades on basics in college in 1988) 4.0 science, 93% Hesi and 850 critical thinking. I am glad things worked out this way....I have some major commitments this Spring so I can finish some personal things and get organized before the summer start.

So do they take your overall GPA into consideration or do they look specifically at your required pre-req GPA?? I've heard different things in regards to this...

Same thing happened to me. I was waitlisted for Spring 2013. I received an email from UT offering Summer 2013 admission to the accelerated program. Still in shock!

HESI - 91.28%

Nursing prereqs - 3.68

Science - 3.5

BS degree in Accounting

Congrats dream99!! :D

You'll need to take Healthcare Provider CPR before you start. Don't lose the card - you'll need it when you apply for a job. You can take a great class for free by signing up at The Junior League of Houston, Inc. website. Just make sure you register for Healthcare Provider, not Heartsaver.

CPR

Typically classes fill up very quickly. Registration opens exactly one month prior at midnight. For example, if the class starts on the 20th of the month, registration opens on the 20th of the previous month at midnight (night of the 19th, morning of the 20th). You snooze, you lose. Keep checking back and you should be able to snag a free class before you start in May. Free is good, but they do a good job teaching you, which is more important in the long run.

Thanks for the info. Has anyone received a transcript eval yet??

Hi there,

Yes I have already completed all my prereqs, I have a BS in Biology, so I only had to take nutrition and sociology last summer as I never took them in under grad. Yeah it is def scary to leave my full time job, I've been working for 4 yrs now, and I do like my job, but I think this career path will be the best. I eventually want to to NP or stay in research, but as a research nurse though. I only applied to 2 programs so I understand, I really would be happy getting into either program, but UT would be def the best since I live so close to the med center. Oh and I wish they had interviews also, since some applicants may not have 4.0s but may be great candidates for the program. I have an overall GPA of 3.6 and a science of 3.4 and I'm worried about not getting in...
