U.S.A. Texas

Hey guys! I wanted to start a forum for us twu spring 2012 hopefuls!

About me

I have a 3.2, yikes! :sofahider, and after this summer it should come up to a 3.6 or 7 and I am studying my butt off for the teas and will only have 3 more classes after that to take. I have gotten into the university as the first step, but I am so worried about getting into the nursing program, fingers crossed :uhoh3:

UTMB and I don't know how it all works but this Spring 800 applied so That's something to keep in mind.

Holy cow! There are only 90 spots in Houston & 100 in Dallas... That is a lot of disappointed people out there. I guess they also had the pick of the litter too, with so many people. Congrats on UTMB :-)

So true! TWU is a excellent school but I just prefer to go through the summers and that's something UTMB offers!

Nope, nothing. I guess the industry is exploding, but they have a lack of teachers for programs, so they have to keep things small. Bummer for us. Then again, I am glad they have high standards, hopefully that will make a better nurse force. I didn't have an exact plan, but am working on some things now. Going to go back to work full time somewhere. I am also applying to Collin for their CNA/EKG/Phleobotomy cert (hopefully I can at least get in there). I plan on getting a job at a hospital after that. In the mean time I am thinking about re-taking A&PI, Micro & stats for A's instead of B's. I am also going to take the PSB exam for Collins ADN program and apply there, as well as try for TWU again. The way things are going, I am going to have to wait till 2013 to get in somewhere. If I can only do the ADN, I will just do a bridge program later for the BSN. I thought of UT Arlington, but would have to take Algebra, Tech. writing & Gen Chem, plus their Intro to nursing course before I can apply for their accelerated program. I am also going to look at Baylor in Dallas (only if I can get some financial aid). Everything happens for a reason, so I know everything will work out how it is supposed to. How about you?

Yeah I hear where you are coming from. I actually have a C in chemistry so I will be retaining that and I started studying for the TEAS, again! I am also considering the Collin certification program but i didnt really see any requirements for the program on their website.. So I'm not sure. I also found another CNA school I think in plano. So that's basically my plan until I reapply to TWU.

Oh and I looked into Baylor as well and they are sooo expensive!!

Just so everyone in the Dallas area knows...I heard from a friend that lewisville hospital offers a nursing program through El Centro. You have to have job there for 6 months and a few prerequisite classes to apply. But apparently the hospital pays for everything and will even pay for a bridge program through UTA. Just thought I'd pass that info along!

I know! That is why I can only do it if I get some scholarships and financial aid of some sort. As for the Collin CNA program, go to the Collin website, then type: /nursing next to the url and hit enter. This should take you to the homepage for nursing. From there you can get to the info on the CNA, including what it is, what they require & their application page.

Maybe I was in the wrong place on the website but thanks ill try that! I have my AS in Science but I can't really do anything with that! And I'm getting older :rolleyes:: so I need to do something! I wish they would hire more teachers and make the program bigger!

Thanks for the info. I knew there were quite a few different hospitals that do stuff like that, but wasn't sure which ones. :-) That is why I want to get a certification so I can get in at a hospital & hopefully get some help w/school & get some experience. Usually you have to contract with the hospital for a couple of years after you get your RN as well. But hey, the whole point is to be a nurse right?

@nela87

You're welcome. hope it works...

I know what you mean about getting older... I am already older. Have a kid that is almost in high school, am married etc. I am ready for a career & to actually be done with school. I have been taking classes since 2003. I used to be a single mom & worked full time, so I did school part time. Then I got married, then got laid off & that is when I started school full time so I could finish my AA and do the pre-reqs for nursing school. I am tied of homework! :eek:

@cabryan

Haha! Well at least you have a family!! I'm turning 24 this month, and i have a boyfriend of a long time, he just graduated nursing school in may, and we talked about marriage and we always said when I'm done with school. But this is getting frustrating lol. I just want a career. And TWU is stressing me out with all this waiting.

Hey does anyone know if we can finish the BSN program within a year and half? Like taking summer classes?
