Has anyone heard anything about the LVN program at Texas Careers in San Antonio? Or any comments about the CNA program? I'm considering the LVN, but it is a really hefty investment (about 24k, but I can get a large chunk of it covered by grants). The reasons I'd consider it are that it is a pretty small school and that the instructors seem very competent. TIA for your opinions.:twocents:

Specializes in Med-Surg Tele/ LTC/Acute Rehab.

Forget Texas Careers. Go to Galen Health Institute for your LVN! Great school, Small class sizes along with tuition.

Specializes in ECMO.

doesn't St Philip's cost around $1,500-2000?

Im sure that traditional college tuition is cheaper, but you have to have pre reqs done before you even apply to the nursing program. At Galen Health no pre reqs needed other than ged or HS diploma. You do all the basics like A&P, Pharm etc. in the one year FULLTIME program. They also offer night classes P/T now also. Check it out @

does SPC require pre-reqs for the LVN program now? My friend went to school there back in 2003 and didn't have to do any pre-reqs. Maybe things changed.

I just graduated from Texas Careers March of this year and let me tell you that yes it is expensive. And yes St Philips has a program but the waiting list is long and they do require pre-reqs. Texas Careers was ok. I learned alot..enough to get me my license and that is all that matters. Galen is a good school too. I would look at both and see what works with you and your lifestyle.

I too just graduated from Texas Careers and it was good. Saved time on pre-req's and yes I have a balance to pay. I think it was a great investment because their weekend course allowed me to work full-time and study. It was long though after the first year I wished I went fulltime. The instructors are great and some even went to Galen. I think SPC lost their nursing program due to fail rates on NCLEX.

Galen alumni here. Yep, it's a good program. Is Ms. Moreno still teaching? She was awesome.
