  1. Hi, I am in nursing school and have had a recurring mrsa infection to the nares. I never knew it was mrsa until recently and have started some treatment for it. are mrsa people allowed to work as nurses? i'm devastated and afraid.
  2. Go for it! I'm just getting started in Home Health/Hospice - LTC just really wasn't for me. On the plus side, I was thrown into having to do absolutely EVERYTHING myself and QUICKLY, so that strengthened my skills - but I was so uncomfortable knowing that working in that sort of capacity impeded me from giving what I would consider optimal care. Home Health and Hospice are where it's at!
  3. I feel the same way the OP does. I'm pretty apprehensive about the state test - I've never actually gotten to take a BP myself - only listened/watched videos in class. I can't afford to buy the cuff for myself, either.
  4. Has anyone heard anything about the LVN program at Texas Careers in San Antonio? Or any comments about the CNA program? I'm considering the LVN, but it is a really hefty investment (about 24k, but I can get a large chunk of it covered by grants). The reasons I'd consider it are that it is a pretty small school and that the instructors seem very competent. TIA for your opinions.
  5. Today in my CNA class, our instructor recommended we watch a Youtube video of a female autopsy. I checked out the video, and I was definitely grossed-out. Before I saw this video, I was proud of my un-squeamishness -but now I'm really worried about being a squeamy! Am I overreacting? Or is this the kind of thing I should be able to handle looking at (body parts, I guess, not just the autopsy aspect) if I want to be a health-care professional?
  6. Thanks so much for your encouragement. I guess it can't really be that different from diapering a toddler, right?
  7. I am a new CNA student (who hopes to eventually become a Registered Nurse) who will be starting clinicals soon. I know this may sound a little petty, but I'm kind of nervous about peri-care and changing people's briefs. I have young children myself, and am quite accustomed to (and not grossed-out by) changing their diapers, but I've never really had particularly good experiences with those of other friends' kids. How...gruesome is it to perform peri-care and change briefs on pts? Honestly, it's the only thing making me nervous about being a CNA! Thanks for your responses - I hope this post doesn't make me sound too shallow.
  8. This is such a beautiful thread. I am a nursing student with a goal of working in peds in some capacity, and now I really want to give NICU serious consideration. As a mom myself, I was especially touched by the stories written here. Thank you for the "chicken soup for the soul!" acheive08
