Texas A&M HSC-Any grads or current/prospective students?

U.S.A. Texas

Hi Everyone, I wanted to post and see if any of you are grads or hopefuls of the Texas A&M program at college station, the Health Science Center? I am currently a student at LoneStar college and I've been looking into the associates program to transfer over to the the bachelors, but after doing the figures I can do the prereqs and the bachelors program in the same amount of time. So I wanted to know if anyone has any information or reviews about the health center branch of A&M in College Station? I wasn't even aware that they had a program for nursing other than the one in Prairie View. I am also interested in UT, but I think A&M is actually going to be a closer commute. Any advice out there on getting in? So far I have a 4.0 gpa, but I have about another 3 semesters of prereqs to get done, so I'm hoping to keep my gpa in the same ballpark. Thanks so much for your time.

Sonseria ;)

Hey there TXJeep,

Any nursing program you apply to in Texas will have summer semesters. I was also concern about that too. Texas A&M offers summer courses. I know that some other nursing programs like PV and UT do not say anything about summer courses but you have to call and ask because that is what I did. Almost all of the Texas nursing programs start their first semesters in the summer and offer summer classes, you just have to call, ask and be persistent. Right now, in HSC we will be starting summer classes June 1st (second semester accelerated) and we still don't know anything about financial aid which is very frustrating and common of this program to do everything last minute.

I have a question for those of you that have already been in the program. What do you recommend for a stethoscope? I have heard Littman is a good brand but I know there are many different types.

Thanks

I am graduating from TAMHSC in May 2010.

My advice:

go to a different program. I hear UTSA is nice - but UT Houston is difficult.

FYI: When I was accepted into the program and I had a 3.2 overall GPA in kinesiology. However, my PreHESI score was about a 95% and my lowest score was in reading!

Stethoscope type doesn't matter. My suggestion is to buy a lightweight Littman and have your name engraved on it for $15 when you buy it online.

REASONS NOT TO GO TO TAMHSC:

1) The program is too new and disorganized

2) It's expen$ive

3) Much time is wasted

4) Clinical rotations are limited because Blinn College students get first pick because their program is older

5) The 120 hour "Capstone/internship/preceptorship" is now limited to CS hospitals only

6) Your schedule will change at least 5 times before the semester is over

The biggest reason not to go: there are other, better programs available - and they are cheaper. It's a no-brainer.

Aww...I got waitlisted! :-(

Hi,

That is where I got my letter from...

My BAMF page doesn't have a letter on it. Just the form. I think this is God's way of testing my patience and mental stability :) I just really hope it didn't get lost in the mail!!

Hi AggieBecky,

I also received the student data sheet and nothing in th mail yet. I wonder what that means  hmmmmmh. oh men. I may give them a call. hey have you read any of the posts from current students. Kind of negative and i tend to believe students because they are there now but I also received my masters from A&M and i never met more dedicated professors.

I guess whatever will be will be.
