U.S.A. Texas

Does anybody know anything about these two programs Temple College vs Central Texas College)? I am new to the area (about 2 months) and have been accepted to both programs. But since I don't know much about the reputations of either, I'm not sure which to decline. Assuming tutition isn't an issue, any ideas?

Thanks so much! ~Steph~

:welcome: Welcome to our online community!

Since I am north of you, in the DFW area, I cannot provide an answer to your question. Hopefully someone will come along and assist you with the decision-making process. Good luck with your journey into nursing!

this late, i'm assuming you got into the RN

am i also correct in assuming you are military and thus closer to CTC?

i just finished the TC LVN program in 07. i will tell you unequivocally that TC is the better school and i have been paying out of district tuition for 3 years and driving all the way up there just because i hate CTC so much.

TC has this incredible lab that the med students from A&M use and we do sme stuff in there, also. i think the clinicals at TC are better. S&W, VA, Kings Daughters.

CTC does do some at S&W, some at darnall, some at local LTC and also at CMH in gatesville.

speaking in terms of your education, TC is so much better. the college has super duper wonderful facilities and the ppl in the offices are actually *helpful* and you don't have to be herded like cattle just to get some help. its completely unlike CTC in that regard.

the flipside, if time is an issue, CTC is closer (its hella cheaper in tuition AND gas) which is nice when you have to be at clinicals at 545 til 4 and i'm assuming you already know how great the traffic is around 4-6pm:madface:. they also have a daycare there.

actually, scratch that about clinicals. RN students have much less grueling clinical hours. either way, its a drive to TC.

TC also has a better pass rate on their boards than CTC, although i hear CTC is improving.

TC has the HESI, which is different than the end of semester exam type formats they have at CTC. but they will flunk you out of the program for failing HESI. fyi: over half my class failed it the first time.

(i passed :wink)

Well we decided to rent for a few months until we knew which program I'd be accepted into, and then purchase in that respective district. But we are not military, I guess around here we're considered "civilians", my husband is a firefighter for Killeen and the drive back and forth from the DFW area got old..and expensive!

Thanks for the info...I really appreciate it!

Hands down go to Temple College!!!! I just graduated from the VN program and although you are going for RN I still feel that you will get the best education at TC. Not only that but Temple College is known for putting out quality nurses and is respected by alot of the major hospitals in the area especially S&W. Temple also has the best technology available for nursing students. They have a sim lab that actually resembles a hospital with a nurses station, sim-man w/ monitors and everything you could want to help you succeed. They also have audio and visual technology. I may be biased since I went to Temple but I promise you its the better choice!

That was my initial impression, but I just wanted to be sure......I went ahead and accepted Temple's offer and have just signed the declination for CTC!

yay!! well congrats on getting in and I wish u the best! Don't worry abotu Hesi...it is hard but it's because of the way they word the questions. It's all a head game. I passed it the 1st time for practice and I passed it again the 1st time when it counted.

what's the Hesi?

What color scrubs do the RN students wear,,,and how strict are they about the brand and fit? I stopped by Uniform Place and they said there was only one style (elastic waist and seam down the leg) that we could wear...my worst nightmare!

1. What's the Hesi?

Hesi is a test that the college uses from a private company to test the appitude of its students and how likely they are to pass the nclex upon graduation. You need to pass it to graduate but there are several dates to take it if you don't pass it the 1st time.

You wear an ugly green color with a white lab coat lol. The scrubs suck!!! lol they are not even flattering at all! But I heard this year they changed companies of who they get the uniforms from so maybe yours will look better than ours did. I heard they went to Landau company. WHen you go for orientation you will get fitted and order your scrubs/supplies there. I would suggest saving up for around 300 dollars. You want at least 3 scrubs and then your labcoat plus if you want to buy your stethescope, penlight, badge, other equipment etc etc etc. Don't buy any scrubs from other places bc you wont be able to wear them at clinicals. You could buy some just to wear during class days but at clinicals you need to wear your assigned school uniform.
