TEAS score required for TCCU Fort Worth

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi all,

my wife just gave the TEAS test at TCCU. She got an overall score of 84.7 %.

She has a 82 pecentile in Science, 92 percentile in Math, 98 percentile in Reading and 71 percentile in English.

Are these scored (ccombined with a 3.33 GPA for pre-requisites) good enough to get into the nursing program?

I've love to find out how people that got accepted fared in the TEAS test and what their GPAs were.

My wife has a seat in a community college in Ohio and she's debating whether to go back to OH and claim her seat or wait till January of next year to see if she'll get into TCCU. She can't go this August as she has one Chemistry prerequisite to take at TCUU before she can apply to nursing.

Thanks.

Yep, that was me that got waitlisted at TCC with a 4.0. I also finished with a 93 or somewhere real close to that on the TEAS. I know I was in the 98th percentile nationwide. So, I opted to go ahead and go to UTA and am very happy there. Tomorrow is the big first day in the hospital! I better go get some sleep!

What do you mean by wait listed? Does that mean that you were on the alternate list for the semester you applied? If you're on the alternate list, do you get considered for the next semester automatically or do you have to reapply (if you don't get in)?

She was right. I did NOT have a 4.0...in fact I think I had a 3.68 in my prereqs. I know people who came in with slightly lower gpa's than that. It's just competitive because of the number of people that apply. It's true though that if you have even one class left to finish, it hurts you because they work on a point system and you don't get any points for classes that are not completed. What one needs is a strong science gpa. The deal is that the competition is stiff EVERYWHERE. I've heard it's hard to get into any program in this area just because of the sheer numbers of people who are applying. I've got my fingers crossed for you Txspadequeen!! I'm a little jealous....I would have given my eye teeth to have skipped Foundations!! LOL!!! It really sucked!! And you're right, the TEAS test was pointless. I couldn't figure out why there was so much stinkin general biology on there. I can remember ONE chemistry question and like zero A&P questions. It was stupid indeed!!

I'm sure you girls at UTA are excited to be getting into the hospital!! It's just so cool. Over time you will start to feel like a real nurse and it's just the best feeling when you see that stuff you learn actually helps people.

Kathy, when you say you had a GPA of 3.68, did you mean the GPA for the 4 science prereqs (A&P, Chem, Microbilogy...I'm not sure of the 4th one...just hears these from my wife) or the overall GPA for all the 11 odd pre-req courses?

Oh, my bad -- I guess I didn't 'meet' someone. I knew I'd heard about it though :D

How's it going at UTA? I have my hospital orientation next week! :)

Going great, today was a lot of fun! How about you, you're at El Centro right?

Yes, and if everything goes well, I'll graduate in May!! It sounds like that baby is coming at the right time (my b-day is March 7th...lol), not to mention, you will have some time before school starts to recover and enjoy that newborn baby time. When does the fast track program start and how long is it? I really don't know how it works.

Katy -great to see you! I was wondering where you had disappeared to! :)

Yes, I was on the alternate list for Fall '06 admission. I did reapply for Spring '07 and got in but chose to go to UTA instead.

Specializes in ICU, PICC Nurse, Nursing Supervisor.

well the fast track starts in june with testing out of the first semester courses. then the students join the class in progress for mental health then continue with the next courses.etc. they are requiring all but 7 pre-classes hours be complete , i have all those done with a 3.4 (science 3.0) . i just don't know how many i am competing with to get in because they also take paramedics and emt's. i turned in my application last week after that stupid teas test. i know my science gpa is a little low but i am hoping that it gets me in because i don't think a lot of people are aware of this new thing tcc is doing and not everyone has all there classes complete and as you know you cannot apply with classes in progress...yeah baby will be here soon but i am suppose to have surgery 5-6 wks after the birth and hope that does not get in the way of anything....

Yep, I'm at El Centro. Things are going great! One lecture test down, and two skills check-offs. Next week is our hospital orientation, and then we start our clinicals. I'm getting excited/nervous about the clinicals! :)

Have you had any skills check-offs?

That was my overall GPA. I had straight B's in my science courses. I hope this helps.

Great to see you too!! I'm still here...barely. LOL!! I'm usually somewhere with my head in a book. I also started working at Baylor All Saints in Ft. Worth so I'm just busier than I'd like to be. How do you like it so far?? I hope things are going well for you!! Keep me posted.

that's just too cool. like i said, i've got my fingers crossed for you!! will they notify the fast track folks at the same time they notify all the other applicants?

That was my overall GPA. I had straight B's in my science courses. I hope this helps.

That definitely helps. What was your TEAS score and when did you get into TCC nursing program?

Well ok then... Glad to hear that at least there is a chance..lol
BTW I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that you're accepted, Denise. I know you've been trying to get into an RN program for some time already. Good luck with school and the baby! ;)
