TCU Fall 2012 Traditional BSN

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello all!!! I will be starting the BSN program at TCU in the fall as a transfer student and I was just wondering if there were any of you out there I could talk to!! I am going to having advising with Zoranna this Friday and was just wondering if anyone else had done so yet...tell me what to expect. Anyway, would love to talk to any and all of my future classmates if you're out there :)

Hi An, Welcome!!

Linda- I've placed an order but the bookstore sent a response that said they will not fill orders until two weeks before school starts. Kind of crazy, since you already got yours. I think the total ended up being around $1100. How about you? I've gotten a lot done, I bought my lab coat, patches, shoes, stethoscope, name badges and a new watch (I haven't worn one in years). I'm planning on purchasing scrubs in the next week or two. I also need to pick up my parking pass.

Have you had time to check out the textbooks, what do you think? I can't believe we have three weeks until classes begin. Where has the time gone.

Sarah- Keep us posted when you get your schedule, I'm in section 101/111. I hope all is well with you too. I'm well rested after my trip to Houston/Galveston. Now, I'm trying to get everything done for my school and my girls. Busy, Busy!!

Hi Sarah! :)

Camkynna- I'm in section 101/111 too. I typed our professors' names on ratemyprofessor but no one came up. Weird huh! Only part-time professors won't be shown on ratemyprofessor, our teachers should been there for a long time (and tortured a history of generations, lol).

Books were cost $1,100 huh? Really nice!!! +______+ I might just use library books?? :(

My mom's friend has a sewing factory; she made all of my scrubs and lab coats just for me, yay!! :p

I only put my first name in the name badge though... Hope they'll be okay with it.

Well *sigh*, I should just enjoy my last glourious vacation days huh!!!

Oh my goodness, I think I'm going to be in 101/111 too! I think there is still a spot or two left and I want that one...I'm registering on Monday and the lady that gives out permission numbers has been gone all week so I don't think anyone else could have taken those spots! I'm so excited! I hope we have an awesome clinical group and can't wait to meet y'all!

Oh and by the way..I have one thing to say about the textbooks....AMAZON! I got all of my books for under 700 and at the book store, even RENTALS were over 900! So yes, please check that out if you haven't already.

I will keep y'all posted about my schedule, I should know for sure very soon! :)

Sarah- you got all your books already? Whoa! You're fast! :p About the rental books, I wonder if we could note anything on the books though, just pencil. I never rented books before... I have to write and doodle a lot when I study. Rental books don't really suit me :(

By the way, I don't see the books for the clinical class (NURS 20284). Did you see it on TCU Bookstore website??

Amy- I couldn't find the books for NURS 20163-103 either. There are only section 105 and 055 for this course. Did you see it?

An- I do have all my books already! That's why I love Amazon.com :) And about the rentals, you really aren't supposed to write in them and stuff, and they're usually picky about that. Also, you may want to keep some of your fundamentals books for future reference..but it's up to you! But if you buy your books from another source it's still cheaper than renting them from the bookstore, and you don't have to give them back. I'm with you, I have to highlight!! And no, when I looked online last, there were no books listed for 20284. I think it may be because that is our clinical and we don't really have a book for that? I'm not sure though..But for 20163, which is our Pharm Lab, I believe the lab book is listed under the lecture books. There are two books listed for Pharm lecture and I flipped through one of them and it seems like it's more of a lab manual. So that's what I think! :)

Thank you so much Sarah!!l I really appreciate your detailed info!!!!! :)Actually, I found some books on Craigslist, but I'm not in the U.S. now to pick them up, so I'll just order them online then...

How's your stat class going or did you finish it? I read our topic from beginning and saw you said you took it at NE TCC. I took it at NW :p kinda fun and easy huh? Are you transferred from TCC too? Didn't see you mention about that.

I just had an accident (scooter accident), could barely walk now. Hope I will make my trip back to the States all fine :( don't know if we have to walk a lot in clinical... Agh, painful!! :(

You're very welcome!! And my stats class is going just fine...ready for it to be over so we can start nursing school! And yes, I took most of my prereqs at TCC NW and TR (which is my favorite campus!) But I also have been to University of Texas at Tyler and Texas State University. I also applied at Texas State's nursing school but didn't get in..but I like TCU better so I'm happy! :)

And girl, be careful! I hope you get well soon...what country are you in? I want to go on an international vacation...there are just so many countries I would like to visit! I'm saving up money so that I can spend a summer abroad for my 'global awareness' course.

Oh, and random question...you said you got your name tag at the bookstore, right? Well I went today and the lady there said you have to order them online then pick them up in the store, but I can't find them on the bookstores website for some reason. Is that how you did it? Other than the name tag, I've got everything else taken care of! :)

Yeah right you have mentioned it in your previous comments :p I have applied to UT Tyler too, and Texas Woman's University, and Notre Dame College in Ohio. I got in to all of them, but I chose TCU cuz I like Fort Worth, still want to spend some more time here :p Well, Vietnam is my country but I have visited some other Asian countries. It's always fun travelling with family and friends ^.^ My hometown is at the middle of Vietnam and it has the most beautiful beach on the world!! (for real! :p ) I'll volunteer to be your tour guide for free if you visit Vietnam, you can stay at my little house too if you don't mind. My mom is very friendly and welcoming, she always loves me bring friends home :)

About the namebadge, just go to http://www.tcubookstoreonline.com and look at your left, you'll see namebadges under tab Pages. Click on it, and fill out the boxes, and it should be ready for you in about a week. Mine was very fast, only 3 days afer I ordered. It cost $12 for the magnetic.

I'm kinda nervous though, cuz I have neither knowledge nor experience with hospital or healthcare stuff before :uhoh21: it might take double times of works than other people for me to catch up things... Well, it's okay!! I stay positive even when I'm lame :yeah:Hope I could be able to walk normally again before school starts, though...

Wow, that's awesome! Especially because out of all of those schools you picked TCU... And yes, Vietnam sounds awesome! It's a plan! :)

Thanks for the badge info! I guess I completely missed that part of the webpage :p

And don't be nervous, this program is designed for people who have no background in health care. I've worked and volunteered in hospitals before and for the most part, people are really nice and help you out a lot! Occasionally you will come across a rude doctor or nurse, but those are the people that aren't happy with their lives because they chose nursing for just the money and not because they love it. You will see so many things, things you've never seen, and you will never be able to say you've seen it all! (especially in psych, I worked with psych patients) But it will be great, and we all have each other to study with and keep each other sane! :)

Hey Ladies, I'm looking forward to putting faces with names on Thursday. Are you all bringing anything specific with you (maybe something to write in/on)? Also, does anyone know where we are suppose to park? Just few food for thought questions.

Looks like this is our last week of summer. Has anyone started reading or looking over the textbooks? If so which one's?

Thanks, Amy

Hey Amy!

I am definitely going to bring a journal to write in, I'm sure there is going to be a lot of information to write down. As far as parking, if you have your parking pass already you can park in one of the commuter lots, that's what I'm going to do (I have to look at the map tomorrow to know exactly where those are lol)

I can't believe it's less than a week before nursing school starts. Where did the summer go?? I have flipped through all the books and I am terrified..especially for pharm. What about you? Have you started reading?

See you all on Thursday!! :)

Hi Sarah,

I've tried to avoid looking at the textbooks, so I don't get overwhelmed. What section did you end up in?

Have you already gotten your student ID? I thought I might take care of that tomorrow after orientation. I'm going to try to get to the Police dept. when it opens at 7:30 to pick up my parking pass. Did it take you very long?
