TCC Clinicals

U.S.A. Texas

Can anyone give me a little insight on how long TCC clinicals are? I will possibly be applying as a transfer student and still need to take OB, Pedi, and Complex Concepts of Adult Nursing. I am actually considering transfering from a BSN program with one year left simply because I feel like I will have no time to be with my kids in a program that requires two twelve hour clinicals each week even if I go part time. In the long run (though I know it would take more semesters), I think it would be "easier" on me to finish my RN and then do an online RN to BSN program. Any thoughts???

Hi, I am a TCC nurse graduate, Pedi/OB, and Complex are the last 2 semesters in TCC's nursing program. The Pedi/OB are split in 1 semester. Pedi one half, and OB the other half, with 1 "12 hr" clinical each week only (6.30a-6.30p), but you usually get out no later then 4.30-5pm. The same goes for the Complex semester, 1 "12 hr" clinical each week. Both the Pedi/OB and Complex semesters you have to meet 2 days for lecture, and the lecture classes generally last 2 hrs each.

I hope this will be helpful to you.

Thanks so much, that is VERY helpful information! Are there any other classes that you guys take your last two semesters? I want to make sure that there isn't something else I would need to finish that just maybe is different from the sequence of classes I've been taking. Thanks again for your help! :)

Hi! I am glad the info was helpful! Well nursing programs use either HESI or ATI, well TCC uses ATI, and each semester we take the ATI exam covering information we've learned from the semester, if I remember correctly, I think there are a few certain points if you attain them from the ATI exam, that go toward your final grade. The Complex semester you will have like 4 different exit ATI tests....personally they didn't help me and many will agree. Good luck to you, let me know if you get in and need notes or something....:) I still have alot of useful info.

Take care!

Thanks so much, any help would be great! I don't think I can have my transcript evaluated by TCC until October for the transfer program. However, since I only have two semesters left in a BSN program, I hope that I shouldn't have too, too much to finish up at TCC.

i am about to enter complex at tcc ~ so, the info you have gotten is correct with the exception of theory possibilities. last semester in pedi/ob, i had a 4 hour/once a week theory class and i have the same once a week class for complex. so essentially, i have only had 2 days a week tied up with school (we all know its so much more than that, but only 2 official days.)

aren't you at uta? i believe we have a friend in common. :) i have a very close friend who is there who is a single mom w/ 4 kids. :) good luck!

missy ~ mom to 2 great kids, rn to be dec'08, currently a student nurse extern at hmsw

Sorry, I just finally had a chance to read your post. Yes, it sounds like we do have a good friend in common! :) While I do think that UTA is a wonderful program, I'm just not 100% sure that it is going to meet my needs where I am at this stage in my life. Have I met you as well or just our friend?
