question about Texas CE/CEU for nurses

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi everyone,

I have explored the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners' website page on Continuing Education hours and requirements for Texas Registered Nurses. I remember reading awhile ago (the problem is...I don't know where!) and hearing from the college where I received my ADN that "starting soon" there would be certain CEU/CE required for nurses. One of those topics was bioterrorism. I am trying to figure out if that holds true, and if bioterrorism or another CE/CEU topic is part of the 20 required hours. I couldn't find anything on the webpage that mentioned specific courses that must be taken with the exception of people who work in nursing forensics. I searched the page extensively, but wonder if I might have missed something. Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

The Bioterrorism requirement expired in 2007. http://www.bon.state.tx.us/nursinglaw/npa1.html#305 Scroll to Section 301.305.

Here is info related to what qualifies as continuing nursing education: http://www.bon.state.tx.us/nursingeducation/ceu.html

Unless you're working in an Emergency setting, you do not need the Forensics hours.

Hope this helps,
