New Graduate Rio Grande Regional Hospital

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi y'all,

So I am a new graduate nurse who accepted a job offer at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, Texas. The orientation is 12 weeks or the time it takes to prepare me, and it includes didactics and clinical experience. As the day approaches I seem to feel more nervous. Is there anyone who has worked for this hospital who would be willing to give feedback? I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Are you from that area? If not, the culture shock may be challenging.

There are a lot of threads here on AN about the Rio Grande Valley.

Hi, I accepted a job in McAllen at Valley Regional, I completely understand your wanting some information regarding the hospital maybe even the region. I have taken to looking at all of the previous post that have anything to do with this region. Can't say that I have found any real encouraging things, but I think that you can do anything for a year or two. Especially if it helps you to obtain your dream. If you don't mind me asking when do you start? I am getting nervous because I signed my contract and filled out my I-9 but I haven't heard anything regarding completing a drug screen or anything else, except that orientation starts Dec. 5th. I have to find a decent area to move that is not completely over wrought with craziness. If you could give me some pointers I would truly appreciate it. And I am relocating from Houston, are you from that area?
