  1. Hi, I accepted a job in McAllen at Valley Regional, I completely understand your wanting some information regarding the hospital maybe even the region. I have taken to looking at all of the previous post that have anything to do with this region. Can't say that I have found any real encouraging things, but I think that you can do anything for a year or two. Especially if it helps you to obtain your dream. If you don't mind me asking when do you start? I am getting nervous because I signed my contract and filled out my I-9 but I haven't heard anything regarding completing a drug screen or anything else, except that orientation starts Dec. 5th. I have to find a decent area to move that is not completely over wrought with craziness. If you could give me some pointers I would truly appreciate it. And I am relocating from Houston, are you from that area?
  2. Tx. LVN 2yrs, RN 2yrs experience $36/hr no differentials Incenter dialysis. COL is moderate 5 bedroom home $609 per month
  3. If you have the desire to be a nurse I say go for it. My husband and I have 11 children, I have had 4 heart surgeries and a pacemaker implant and I am about to be 39yrs old, and just hit my one year anniversary for my RN and my three year anniversary for my lvn in the same month. I let my age, circumstances and fear of failure keep me from being a nurse for too long. It took me almost dying to decide that life is too short to live in fear and as long as I try with everything in me there is no way I am a failure because in the end I will definitely be further along in life than where I began simply because I had the guts to try. Good luck with which ever choice is right for you.
  4. Their is a nurse at my facility that wears a hearing aid and she is one of the best nurses there. The only thing that limits you is you. Good luck
  5. I never had to interview with Davita. They actually purchased the private clinic were I was working and I have been with them for almost two years. The company is not a bad company. I think it is probably the same as anywhere else. Some good and some bad and management plays a major roll in both. I am moving along because I don't want to be shut out of working anywhere because my only RN experience would be in dialysis.
  6. I have been working for Davita in Houston as an lvn while completing my RN. I am actually in the process of leaving for a position at Bayshore hospital in Pasadena to get some med surg experience. I put in over 200 applications and I only got 5 call backs. I keep hearing that Bayshore is not a great hospital, but I figure some experience puts me in a better position than where I am right now
  7. Congratulations. Good luck on transitions
  8. Thank you And I thought skipping 1 to take this one would be a safe bet, maybe I should rethink my game plan. I only have this series to take before I will be FCCA eligible and of course I wanted to be able to take those in November. I completed the other nursing courses all in Sept. With the hope of being able to complete these in Oct. But being honest with myself I may be creating a mental block out of fear. I will continue to study and I will let you know how i do on the exams. I have come to far to quit now.
  9. Congratulations!!! I am getting ready to take this exam, could you possibly give me some insight as to what prepared you most for this one? It has me terrified after reading a lot of the past post regarding this series. Thank you in advance and good luck on ls 3.
  10. The Hesi admission assessment guide is what I am reviewing now.
  11. @jb2016 Thank you for the advice. I have taken the Hesi before. I had to for my entrance to the lvn program I completed last year. Yes, the Teas is harder. The Teas covered everything: algebra, physics, chemistry, English, and A & P. I had a brain freeze during the test. The computers froze up during the test and we had to shut down and then wait 15 minutes. The timer is right there in your face. It was just a bad day for me.
  12. I attended the information session and was going to apply; found out that they no longer take the HESI. Gave it a try with the TEAS. Completely bombed it. For some reason I feel that the math on that one test is a dream killer for me. Anyway, I just wanted to say good luck and I hope that you are accepted.
  13. Lilia1- congratulations on your success with the Teas. My question to you is what did you feel that your math and science portions were heaviest in (e.i. Percentages, fractions, order of operations, A&P, chemistry,) Also this may have been asked already, but can someone tell me how many questions are for each section? Thank you all. Just trying to mentally prepare myself for my test day on May 7th. Which is also the day of my daughter in laws scheduled c-section. Can't stop wanting to hit myself in the head for taking this date, but I am on a time table and there is no refunds or exchanges.
  14. From my understanding as of Oct 2012 you have to take your micro and a&p before you are allowed to take any of the nursing theory exams. I think with the exception I the transition to RN exam. I need to retake micro and it will not even allow me to register for any nursing exams until I take and pass the micro exam. You may want to check on that with an advisor.
